With several parks throughout its boundaries, Eastside Promise balances city living with green space. About 2 miles from Downtown San Antonio, residents can easily access all the city’s popular attractions or find something fun to do closer to home.
You'll see mainly Craftsman homes and bungalows in Eastside Promise. Many older homes have been renovated on both the interior and exterior. Several new builds are also going up throughout the neighborhood, which tend to be contemporary and are frequently two stories. Single-family homes make up most of Eastside Promise. Though, you can find some multi-family developments in the center of the neighborhood.
Booker T. Washington Elementary School and the Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Wheatley are two public schools in Eastside Promise. The Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Wheatley is the first all-boys public school in San Antonio.
Residents of Eastside Promise have access to several parks for some recreation. Go for a walk or a jog at Menger Creek Linear Park. This walking trail follows the small creek for about a mile and a half through the neighborhood. Woodard Park is a place for sports lovers. With a basketball court, softball field and playground, there’s plenty to do here. The Woodard Community Center features an indoor basketball court, allowing residents to shoot hoops any season.
Phillis Wheatley Park is the newest addition to the neighborhood. This 1-acre greenspace has picnic tables, exercise equipment and an open field. Head here for a challenging workout or for some relaxing outdoor time.
For groceries and other daily needs, there is an H-E-B at the corner of North New Braunfels Avenue and East Houston Street. There is also a Walgreens Pharmacy in this area. Tank’s Pizza and Lord’s Kitchen are two highly rated local restaurants in the neighborhood. Several fast-food restaurants are located along the northern edge of the neighborhood.
With a convenient location and plenty of recreation options, Eastside Promise is a neighborhood with lots of promise.
