Big homes at small prices

Spacious homes sitting away from the curb generally characterize the neighborhood, with mature trees and shrubbery accenting the extensive lawns and yards. Modern split-level homes offer a new-age vibe to the area, while neoclassical two-story homes give a touch of years past, donning stone façades accented with pillars. Ranch-style homes offer attached multi-car garages, and large contemporary colonials have expansive space with giant windows and Juliet balconies. Prices in the area generally stay in the $200,000s and $300,000s.

Brandeis Bronc Bots test robotics

As part of the Northside Independent School District — the largest in the San Antonio area, rated an A-minus on Niche — students in French Creek have several options for schooling. Attending Wanke Elementary School and Stinson Middle School can prepare students for Louis D. Brandeis High School. The Brandeis robotics team — aptly named the Bronc Bots — regularly competes in the FIRST Robotics Competition and the FIRST Tech Challenge. Brandeis holds an A-minus grade on Niche, while Wanke and Stinson have a B.

The cleanest little park in Texas

One highlight of French Creek is the expansive and pristine O.P. Schnabel Park, renowned for its cleanliness. Covering 202 acres, the park features an impressive trail system set among oak trees and mountain laurels. Those into athletics can play basketball, soccer or baseball at the park’s sports facilities, but simple relaxation here is more than fitting. The park is home to the Northside Suburban Little League, which has served the community since 1953. An onsite YMCA offers a swimming pool and health and wellness programs for all ages.

Leon Creek Greenway leads the way

O.P. Schnabel Park connects to the 20-mile Leon Creek Greenway, which runs throughout the city and connects to several other parks and greenspaces. “The trails on the greenway are all paved and they’re great for biking and long runs. It’s a really popular area with the locals,” says Michael McCall, Realtor with JBGoodwin, Realtors and founder of the Live in San Antonio Home Group. The greenway can also be accessed via the MainLand Trail Head. Golf enthusiasts in the neighborhood can find solace at the nearby Mac Vylie Golf Center, just a stone’s throw from Schnabel Park. “The Medical Center is also fairly close, and residents really appreciate that convenience,” says McCall, who grew up just outside of Seguin and moved to San Antonio after graduating from Texas A&M University.

H-E-B: Texas’ favorite grocery store

For groceries and other daily essentials, the neighborhood’s Walmart Supercenter is located near the MainLand Trail Head. There's also an H-E-B just west of the neighborhood near Nani Falcone Community Park. For a taste of Texas seafood, Smashin Crab is located just off Bandera Road and is known for its signature Lobsta Pasta, hurricane flights and take-home boil kits.

Valero Alamo Bowl brings the football fans

San Antonio is full of exciting things to do, and French Creek residents can take advantage of all of it. The annual Valero Alamo Bowl puts top-ranking college football teams head-to-head in one of the most highly anticipated games outside the College Football Playoff. The Briscoe Western Art Museum’s Wild West Wildlife Festival is a family-friendly event full of animal-theme crafting, interactive sessions with Texas wildlife and live demonstrations.

Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
