A mix of residential and industrial space, the Goldfield community is just 10 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio. Within Goldfield is a large industrial park that contains distribution centers and warehouses. Regarding if the industrial activity impacts residents, “I don’t think so,” says Katie Griffin-Ross, San Antonio native and third-generation Realtor at RE/MAX Associates. “There’s a truck distribution center for H-E-B, but not near the residential area.” Major employers within the industrial center include Frito-Lay warehouse and H-E-B meat processing plant. Additionally, Goldfield is centrally located for folks who work at Randolph or Lackland Air Force Base.

Subdivisions in Goldfield have wide streets and some have sidewalks. Railroad tracks run throughout the community. In established neighborhoods, ranch-style homes with stone and brick exteriors can be found under $200,000. Two-story contemporary builds are popping up in the Estrella subdivision with front-facing built-in two-car garages. They are on the market for $254,500 to $300,000. Some single-family homes are available for rent, starting at $1,550. There are also mobile homes and apartments.

With Interstate 35 and the 410 loop bordering the western edge of Goldfield, residents have a straightforward commute in and around San Antonio. And if residents need to get to Austin in a hurry, “Goldfield is close to [State Highway] 130, a new gateway to Austin that has a speed limit is 85,” says Griffin-Ross. Walking and biking around Goldfield may be challenging, as the industrial centers take up much of the community. But for those who prefer public transportation, there are several bus stops along Goldfield Drive and Rittiman Road.

When it comes to dining out, Taqueria Perla Tapatia is known for its tasty food and friendly staff. The restaurant also has a drive-thru. There are several fast-food restaurants in the neighborhood, too, including Whataburger, Church’s Texas Chicken and Bill Miller Bar-B-Q. Goldfield residents have easy access to groceries, with an H-E-B store at the corner of Rittiman Road and Old Seguin Road. Local businesses like VIP Latin Barbershop can be found along Rittiman Road.

For outdoor recreation, locals can walk or run on the half-mile trail at nearby Kardon Park. The playground at this city park is shaded, keeping folks cool on hot summer days. Hugo Lentz Park, John James Park and Friendship Park await just outside Goldfield, which are all dog-friendly. Additionally, Kirby City Pool is open to the public. It is located next to the Kirby Senior Center, which has a food bank and organizes community activities.

The Judson Independent School District serves Goldfield students. Paschall Elementary School and Kirby Middle School both earn a C on Niche. Wagner High School earns C-plus on Niche and boasts a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1. The school’s STEM program has a math Olympiad team.
