Heritage
Established suburb with traditional ranch-style homes
The neighborhood features a mix of single-family homes built throughout the 1970s and ‘80s lining sidewalk-lined streets. The layout of the neighborhood – which is primarily cul-de-sacs and short residential streets – lends itself to walking, whether for exercise or relaxation. And the age of homes in the neighborhood means that they are often ripe for updating. “There’s been a lot of renovation there as far as taking homes, building them up and flipping them,” Paris says. Ranch-style homes with attached garages or carports are the norm, and most properties have quarter-acre lots with fenced-in backyards. While single-story living is most common, the community also has several two-story houses with elements of Colonial Revival design. Prices for single-family homes typically range from $150,000 to $280,000. Homebuyers can find townhouses in the Villas of Westlake subdivision, where units sell for $125,000 to $165,000.Heritage has a neighborhood park, pool and community center
Heritage Duck Pond Park anchors the community as a destination for outdoor recreation. It has a playground, basketball court and picnic pavilion with shade structures to keep them cool all year round. As its name suggests, the park also has a duck pond where residents can feed the birds and watch turtles bask in the sun. The Heritage Duck Pond Park Trail loops around the water and is a popular spot for walking, running and biking.Along the neighborhood’s southern edge are the Heritage Neighborhood Pool and Barbara "Robbie" Robinette Community & Senior Center. The pool is typically open from June through August, and the community center opened its doors in 2024 as an inclusive gathering place with programs for all ages. Programs at the center range from fitness to crafting to computer training. Heritage is also less than 4 miles from attractions like SeaWorld San Antonio and the public Hill Country Golf Club.
Students live in the Northside Independent School District
Heritage is part of the Northside Independent School District, which earns a B-plus from Niche. Most elementary school students are zoned to attend the neighborhood’s Ed Cody Elementary School, which is down the street from Heritage Duck Pond Park and receives a C-plus rating. Older kids can attend the C-rated E.M. Pease Middle School and the B-minus-rated John Paul Stevens High School. The high school offers a four-year law enforcement program that gives students hands-on experience in crime scene investigation, building search and other skills that will help prepare them for future careers as first responders. Nearby private school options include Legacy Christian Academy, serving prekindergarten through 12th grade.Potranco Road is a destination for running errands and going out to eat
The Potranco Road corridor runs along the neighborhood’s northern edge. Westover Marketplace is less than 3 miles up the road and includes spots like Target, Lowe’s and Ulta Beauty. Residents are less than 3 miles from another shopping center with H-E-B plus! and fast-casual restaurants like True Texas BBQ. Heritage also has several strip malls with a mix of local businesses and dining options. Nail and hair salons serve the community alongside family-owned eateries like Thai Hut Restaurant, Delightful Donut and Babe’s Old Fashioned Food, a neighborhood hangout serving American classics. In addition to those local favorites, these plazas have chains like Burger Boy and Wok Inn.Access to the Connally Loop, Loop 1604 and VIA Metro bus service
Heritage sits along San Antonio’s western edge and is centrally located between the city’s two major highway loops: the Connally Loop and Loop 1604. These thoroughfares are part of a hub-and-spoke system that surrounds downtown San Antonio, about 16 miles from the neighborhood. VIA Metropolitan Transit provides local bus service, with stops along Heritage’s main streets. Residents are also about 16 miles southwest of San Antonio International Airport and about 6 miles from the Lackland Air Force Base, part of Joint Base San Antonio. The closest hospitals are Westover Hills Baptist Hospital and CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills, both around a 5-mile drive away.
