Heritage offers suburban living in Western San Antonio

Heritage is a residential neighborhood in Western San Antonio that attracts those looking for comfortable suburban living on the edge of the Alamo City. Tree-lined streets surround Heritage Duck Pond Park and Ed Cody Elementary School, which is part of the coveted Northside Independent School District. In addition to its suburban amenities, Heritage sits along the Potranco Road corridor and is centrally located between the city’s two main highway loops. “When you start looking at a neighborhood, being close to the stores, highways and work are always pluses for homebuyers,” says Brian M. Paris, a Realtor with Keller Williams City View. And for those buyers seeking those pluses, Heritage checks all the requisite boxes. Thoroughfares connect residents to the rest of the Alamo City and beyond, with downtown attractions like the San Antonio River Walk about 16 miles away.

Established suburb with traditional ranch-style homes

The neighborhood features a mix of single-family homes built throughout the 1970s and ‘80s lining sidewalk-lined streets. The layout of the neighborhood – which is primarily cul-de-sacs and short residential streets – lends itself to walking, whether for exercise or relaxation. And the age of homes in the neighborhood means that they are often ripe for updating. “There’s been a lot of renovation there as far as taking homes, building them up and flipping them,” Paris says. Ranch-style homes with attached garages or carports are the norm, and most properties have quarter-acre lots with fenced-in backyards. While single-story living is most common, the community also has several two-story houses with elements of Colonial Revival design. Prices for single-family homes typically range from $150,000 to $280,000. Homebuyers can find townhouses in the Villas of Westlake subdivision, where units sell for $125,000 to $165,000.

Heritage has a neighborhood park, pool and community center

Heritage Duck Pond Park anchors the community as a destination for outdoor recreation. It has a playground, basketball court and picnic pavilion with shade structures to keep them cool all year round. As its name suggests, the park also has a duck pond where residents can feed the birds and watch turtles bask in the sun. The Heritage Duck Pond Park Trail loops around the water and is a popular spot for walking, running and biking.

Along the neighborhood’s southern edge are the Heritage Neighborhood Pool and Barbara "Robbie" Robinette Community & Senior Center. The pool is typically open from June through August, and the community center opened its doors in 2024 as an inclusive gathering place with programs for all ages. Programs at the center range from fitness to crafting to computer training. Heritage is also less than 4 miles from attractions like SeaWorld San Antonio and the public Hill Country Golf Club.
