An opportunity for first-time homebuyers
A quiet neighborhood off Interstate 410, Hillcrest is ideal for those looking to buy their first home. The neighborhood's sunny streets are lined with sidewalks, and houses tend to be single-story. "It's an entry-level area to buy a house because it's centrally located. You can get anywhere in the city in 20 to 30 minutes," says RJ Reyes, a Realtor with Keller Williams San Antonio, who has been selling real estate in the city for 21 years.
Neighborhood offers budget-friendly housing
Homes in Hillcrest start at around $250,000 and can reach up to about $450,000. The sun-drenched streets typically have little tree cover, and lawns tend to be well-kept. You'll generally spot ranch-style homes in this neighborhood, but Spanish revival and split levels are mixed in. Brick and stone are popular building materials in the area. When homes have lawns, they tend to be well-kept, but the Texas heat leaves many lawns in the area packed with dirt or lined with rocks.
