Just a short walk or drive from downtown San Antonio, Lone Star is on the rise with new restaurants, breweries and renovated homes. The neighborhood used to be a hub for industry, but it’s seen a steady stream of new investment that’s converted the area’s aging buildings into vibrant mixed-use and commercial spaces. It’s array of eateries and bars have become increasingly popular among locals and visitors. “Lone Star is an up-and-coming, walkable district. There are a lot of trendy bars and restaurants there," says Realtor RJ Reyes of Keller Williams, a longtime area resident whose been in real estate for more than two decades. "Developers are taking up these former industrial buildings, like the Lone Star Brewery, and renovating them into restaurants and apartments. It’s attracting a lot of younger people."

Barbecue and breweries in downtown San Antonio
Walking through the area, residents might get a scent of brisket and pork sizzling in the smokers at Bill Miller Bar-B-Q, or fresh coffee being brewed at San Antonio Gold, a local cafe. Lively beer gardens like Kunstler Brewing, Dos Sirenos Brewing and Freetail Brewing Co. draw a crowd on the weekends. The neighborhood’s residential streets are full of small bungalows and cottages, including many Craftsman-style bungalows known for their wide front porches, thick columns and exposed beams. Most of these homes were constructed in the early and mid-20th century, but many of them are being renovated with contemporary designs. Unrenovated homes that could use some improvements can sell for between $250,000 and $350,000 and newly renovated homes can sell for between $350,000 and $600,000. There are also a few new builds in the neighborhood that can list for more than $750,000. For those who prefer something smaller with less upkeep, there are plenty of new condos available at prices ranging from $250,000 to $500,000 depending on square footage.
Walk or bike along San Pedro Creek
At the center of the district, residents enjoy Roosevelt Park, an urban park with grassy fields for picnicking and a playground and climbing wall for kids. It also has a swimming pool where people like to cool off on sizzling summer afternoons. The park offers a place for the community to access hiking and biking trails on the San Antonio River Walk trail, a paved pathway that twists and turns along the riverbank all the way to the city’s downtown. At the opposite end of the neighborhood, residents can also take advantage of the San Pedro Creek Greenway, a two-mile path for walking, biking and jogging.
