Royal Ridge

Summer fun at Royal Ridge Recreational Club
In the heart of the neighborhood is the Royal Ridge Recreational Club, a membership-supported facility with a pool, complete with a water slide and three tennis courts. Takas Windcrest City Park is 2 miles away on Jim Seal Drive, with a shaded playground and walking trails around a small pond. The green space is also home to several baseball fields overlooked by the Windcrest Little League, drawing crowds cheering on the kids during games. Woodcrest Park on Forest Pass Court has a bigger playscape featuring sensory-friendly turf and a mini rock-climbing wall.
Living next to Royal Ridge Elementary
Royal Ridge is a small residential enclave comprising detached homes and townhouses surrounded by an elementary school and a city park. A long-landscaped median greets locals in the neighborhood, leading to Spanish and Mediterranean Revival townhomes. Short and wide trees cast shadows on the residential sidewalks lined with carved shrubs and cacti. Contemporary and ranch-style homes with back-alley garages sit tight together on curving roads. Houses differ from block to block, painted in beige, white and muted greens. Royal Ridge's cohesive ambiance is attributed to the Royal Ridge Neighborhood Association, which is comprised of a volunteer board of directors. Prices can range from around $180,000 for four-bedroom, 1,600-square-foot townhouses to $415,000 for four-bedroom new-construction to $585,000 for remodeled five-bedroom homes with an outdoor pool.
Day trip at Morgan's Wonderland
The neighbors get together several times monthly at the Royal Ridge Recreational Club. "We do late-night pool nights. It's where we set up a movie while the kids swim," Edens says. "We also have a Halloween event, and then there is the monthly teen night. The adult nights are BYOB, where we drink beer and wine with the neighbors." If the community pool isn't enough, Royal Ridge is 2 miles from Morgan's Wonderland, a fully-inclusive, accessible theme park that opened in 2010. This attraction features Morgan's playgrounds and a splash pad where visitors can rent waterproof wheelchairs.
Quick drive to big box stores
Royal Ridge is convenient for places for groceries, leisurely shopping and bites to eat. Edens notes that Beijing House, located in O'Connor Crossing, is a go-to spot for takeout. However, locals can grab a table at Babe's Old-Fashioned Food, a locally owned franchise on O'Connor Road that has been grilling stacked burgers since 1997. On that same road, bar bites and beer are enjoyed at Rocky's Tavern, along with live music and karaoke nights. For morning sweetness, El Folklor Bakery on Randolph Boulevard Boulevard offers Mexican-style baked treats. To restock the fridge, H-E-B is south of the neighborhood on Montgomery Drive and a Walmart on Walzem Road. Royal Ridge is 5 miles from The Forum at Olympia Parkway with dozens of retailers like Target, Best Buy and PetSmart.
STEM programs at Roosevelt High School
Students in Royal Ridge may attend the Northeast Independent School District, the second-largest district in the city. Royal Ridge Elementary School is in the middle of the neighborhood and prides itself in its traditions. Families gather for events such as Health and Wellness Night and Grandparents Day. They may advance to Edward H. White Middle and Roosevelt High School, which offers two magnet programs. The Data & Technology Academy and the Engineering and Technologies Academy allow students to gain experience with architecture, computer science, design and rocketry. According to Niche, the elementary and high school earn a B rating, while the middle school earns a B-plus rating.
Commuting with Interstate 35
Interstate 35 is north of Royal Ridge, leading to I-410 to the west and Texas 1604 Loop to the east. Locals can get downtown in just 13 miles with 1-35 or get to work at Randolph Airforce Base in 8 miles with O'Connor Road. There are bus stops down that same street and Randolph Road. Royal Ridge is just 3 miles from Methodist Hospital Northeast for 24/7 emergency care and 7 miles from San Antonio International Airport, which travels to 45 destinations.
