Suburban San Antonio community at the intersection of major thoroughfares
A collection of subdivisions, including gated communities and apartment complexes, comprise the modest suburban neighborhood of Westlakes on the fringes of San Antonio. At the intersection of Texas Route 151 and Loop 410, Westlakes puts residents at the doorstep of stores, restaurants and attractions in western San Antonio. “Westlakes is an established neighborhood that offers easy access to major highways and is pretty conveniently located to downtown San Antonio,” says local Realtor Kellie Daniels of Coldwell Banker, adding that the region is seeing plenty of development. “This area offers so much, and the new growth will only compound that.” New Traditional homes and apartments define the residential pockets, which are interspersed with green spaces and enveloped by busy streets lined with restaurants and national retailers. “The neighborhood has a lot of open space and walking trails balanced with easy access to shopping, dining and great schools,” Daniels says.

Neo-Traditional single-family homes define this residential pocket
The irregular pattern of streets in Westlakes reveals suburban residences, clustered within a conglomerate of subdivisions. “Westlakes is a master-planned community built in sections, so there’s a wide variety of homes,” Daniels says, noting that while single-family homes make up most of the housing market, the neighborhood also consists of many apartment complexes. Modest neo-traditional is the most prevalent architectural style, and many builds have colonial and Greek Revival influences. Two-story homes are most common, many with one- or two-car garages and small front lawns. Prices for single-family homes typically range from $150,000 to $350,000.
Westlakes offers established neighborhoods with strong ties and welcoming neighbors.

Students can continue to the C-rated Pease Middle School and the B-minus-rated Stevens High School. Access to community parks and SeaWorld
A few parks and recreational spaces sit within the neighborhood, giving residents an outdoor respite. Wheeler Park is Westlakes’ central park and a hub for outdoor recreation. Shaded by a canopy of trees, the paved Wheeler Park Trail surrounds a slightly curved pond. The looped trail is popular for dog walkers and locals seeking to catch a glimpse of the flora and fauna, including turtles and ducks. Anglers set up along the pier to fish, residents use the grill pits for picnics and barbecues, and kids take advantage of the small playground. Sports facilities like a soccer field and baseball diamond are highlights of Tom Slick Park, a city park in the Meadow Village neighborhood. The 1-acre park also features additional trails and pavilions. Golfers can hone their skills at nearby public golf courses like Hill Country Golf Club, and residents are only a few miles from SeaWorld San Antonio, which features water parks and aquariums.

Diverse restaurants and shops surround the neighborhood
Shopping plazas dot Westlakes’ boundary along the highways and Marbach Road. The Westlakes Village Shopping Center is home to an H-E-B Plus! grocery store and fast-food chains like Red Lobster and Jack in the Box. The San Antonio Marketplace across the intersection has La Michoacana Meat Market and My Melrose department store, along with additional dining chains and other conveniences like banks and financial services. Restaurants close to the neighborhood range from Mexican to Vietnamese to Korean, with favorites including Taqueria El Charro De Jalisco and Golden Wok. American cuisine is served at stalwarts like Black Bear Diner Monterrey Village and Willie’s Grill and Icehouse.

Expanding highways keep residents connected
Proximity to main routes offers convenience to hospitals, commerce and some of the area’s largest attractions and employers, including Lackland Air Force Base and SeaWorld. Daniels says that while residents have access to many major thoroughfares, the traffic is a downside. “Traffic is a huge negative,” Daniels says. “The growth is exceeding the infrastructure, and they’re trying to widen Potranco Road and cut Highway 211 around to be the third loop in the city. So, it will improve, but be prepared to hit traffic during rush hour.” VIA Metropolitan Transit also offers bus routes that connect residents here to neighboring communities, and San Antonio International Airport is about 15 miles away.
Highways 151 and 410 offer Westlakes residents quick routes to downtown, shopping, and major employers.
The friendly atmosphere and quiet streets make Westlakes a sought-after San Antonio neighborhood.
