Living and working in Woodlawn Heights
Sharing a name with the nearby lake, Woodlawn Heights is a quiet residential neighborhood on San Antonio’s west side, offering convenience to major employers and higher education. “It’s an up-and-coming neighborhood with a good location,” says Realtor Julian Baker with Camelot Properties, who has sold homes in the area. “It’s close to downtown and St. Mary’s University. It’s not too far from Lackland Air Force Base. You’re maybe 5 to 10 minutes from Woodlawn Lake Park.” Woodlawn Heights is surrounded by major roads that make it easy to get around the immediate area and is not far from highways that can take residents around the San Antonio region.
Homes feel suburban
Woodlawn Heights is home to a mix of housing styles that span decades. “It’s mainly ranch-style homes, but there are quite a few homes that are retro 1950s and 1960s houses, depending on which part of the neighborhood you’re in,” says Baker. The midcentury ranch-style homes often have side-gabled roofs, and some have small front porches. Most homes have siding on the exterior, but some have stone or brick facades. Some newer houses in the neighborhood incorporate stone and wood features into the exterior. Homes are typically close together in the community, giving it a suburban feel. Sidewalks line the streets, and leafy trees are scattered throughout the area. Two-bedroom houses usually cost $200,000, while three and four-bedroom homes often cost around $250,000.
