The DMV neighborhood brings city convenience to the suburbs
DMV is an urban community in Downtown San Bernardino with historic homes near public services. The city has long been a focal point of citriculture and manufacturing industries in the Inland Empire; the first McDonald's was founded here in 1940 and the city received the All-America City award in 1977. Historic homes are just a few blocks away from excellent schools and celebrated city landmarks.
From Craftsman homes to Spanish Revivals
Here you'll find a community of quiet residential avenues lined with tall palm trees, blooming foliage and the San Bernardino Mountains visible to the north. As part of San Bernardino's Downtown, the community is home to many historic buildings and has the added benefit of being near public services such as the DMV and several public schools. The neighborhood's age is on display in the classic architectural styles of its homes, most of which are single-story and single-family houses. Progressive Properties Realtor Jeff Teel says, "The area is well-established; most of the homes were built in the 30s and 40s, and you're right next to the high school." So many classic home designs line the streets; a Craftsman house's clean lines and homey interiors can be on the same block as the smooth stucco facades and tile roofing of a Spanish revival home. Most homes in the neighborhood feature covered front porches and ample yard space for cultivating a garden or playing lawn games. Home prices range from $230,000 for smaller bungalows to as much as $660,000 for larger multi-story houses.
Quality athletic programs in the San Bernardino school system
Public school students are served by the San Bernardino Unified City School District, attending primary schools like Lincoln Elementary School from kindergarten to sixth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions like Arrowview Middle and San Bernardino High School. The latter high school has an overall B-plus Niche rating and has excellent athletic programs that have graduated players for NFL teams such as the Minnesota Vikings and MLB teams like the Chicago Cubs.
Recreation at community parks and national forests
Visit the Original McDonald's Museum, which blends the history of the massively successful fast-food chain with artifacts and exhibits detailing the development of Historic U.S. Route 66. The Bryce E. Hanes Park and Jon Cole Skate Park was built in 2017, named in honor of two local San Bernardino heroes, and home to excellent playsets, a splash pad, basketball and fitness courts and an expansive skate park. Just down Waterman Avenue is the Seccombe Lake Recreation Area, ringed by a half-mile walking trail where you can catch great views of the lake or relax in the shaded picnic areas. Take the freeway north to the San Bernardino Mountains and National Forest, home to miles of hiking, biking and horseback riding trails, and to alpine destinations like Big Bear Lake and Lake Arrowhead.
Minutes away from big-box shopping and authentic cuisines
Neighborhood thoroughfares put residents just a stone's throw away from quality retailers and shopping centers. Regional grocery stores like Stater Bros. Markets will keep your kitchen stocked with fresh produce, ingredients, nonperishable foodstuffs and other household necessities. National pharmacies like Walgreens offer medicinal services as well as a range of medicines, cosmetics and convenience goods. There are also several local and chain restaurants perfect for when you want a nice meal. Los Agaves Taqueria is a local restaurant dishing out authentic Mexican dishes in a laid-back space. Grab a table at Miyagi Sushi, serving up a wide assortment of rolls, udon and tempura to enjoy.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
