Homes are less expensive than in LA and Orange County

The San Bernardino Mountains fill the skyline of Verdemont, where you’ll find a mix of ranch-style houses and New Traditional homes with Spanish influences. Most homes come with wide driveways and large lots that have room for an RV or a swimming pool. There are some larger ranch-style homes and ramblers in Verdemont Ranch Estates, a newer community within the neighborhood. Prices generally range from the mid-$400,000s to the low $900,000s, but homes in the Verdemont Ranch Estates community have sold for $1.2 to $1.7 million. The median single-family home price is in the high $600,000s. “The number one criteria is affordability,” says Oscar Garcia, broker and owner of 1% Listing Fee, who has been working in real estate since 1987. Compared to Los Angeles and the rest of Orange County, he says, “Homes here are a lot cheaper.”

San Bernardino National Forest offers plenty to do

With trailheads that lead into the San Bernardino National Forest and neighborhood parks in the area, you have plenty of opportunities to get outside. “Outdoor activities are pretty big, whether they’re in the desert or the several ranges of mountains,” Garcia says. “And San Bernardino National Forest is huge.” The forest is nearly 700,000 acres and has hundreds of miles of multiuse trails, including routes that go through Bailey Canyon and Devil Canyon. In the winter, skiers can ride down the slopes at Big Bear Mountain Ski Resort.

The Little League team practices at Al Guhin Park, which also has basketball courts and a community center that regularly hosts programming for all ages. You can walk your dog and bring your kids to the playground at Tom Minor Park or head to the grassy Ronald Reagan Park to see a section of the Berlin Wall.
