Bay Ho offers suburban amenities near Mission Bay

Bay Ho is a suburban neighborhood to the northeast of Mission Bay, about 10 miles north of Downtown San Diego. It and its neighbor, Bay Park, are the two main communities on the bay's east side. Balboa Avenue is all that separates the two, but Bay Ho generally offers lower-priced options because fewer homes have bay views. Still, it possesses a similar suburban streetscape and appeals to buyers with its highly rated schools, convenient shopping and access to outdoor spaces.

Remodeled homes and lower-priced options

Bay Ho offers slightly lower prices than its neighbor, Bay Park, even though the streetscape isn't so different. "Bay Ho has a lot of similarities to Bay Park. It just doesn't have the restaurants and stuff to do," says Max Folkers, owner of the Max Folkers Team with Re/Max Pacific and a resident of the Mission Bay area. "The prices aren't that different, but you get a bit of a discount for homes that don't have bay views." Fewer homes in Bay Ho have views of the bay, but many homes do have views of lush canyons and green spaces throughout the neighborhood.

The neighborhood was developed in the 1950s, so ranch-style, Spanish-style and midcentury modern homes are most common. Suburban single-family options range from older ranch-style homes in need of updates to small, renovated houses and larger old homes, priced from the low $800,000s to around $1.6 million. Large homes with full modern remodels and hilltop views can cost between $1.6 million and $2.5 million. Bay Ho also has studio condos and larger townhouses, ranging from the low $200,000s to over $1 million.

Highly rated elementary schools in the neighborhood

Good schools are a big part of Bay Ho's suburban draw. The neighborhood is served by the highly rated San Diego Unified School District, and there are two top-rated elementary schools within the community. Alcott Elementary School and Cadman Elementary School both have strong ratings, so students can't go wrong with their zoning. Marston Middle School and Clairemont High School, located on the neighborhood's south end, add to the highly rated options.
