Late 20th-century homes close to Main Street

Set in the western half of San Luis, Los Jardines de la Plaza is known for its late 20th-century homes, which are within two miles of shopping and dining along Main Street, and from the U.S./Mexico border. “These are 30-year-old homes, but not necessarily lower-priced," says Matias Rosales, a Realtor with Realty One Group Gateway and over 15 years of local experience. "The location is the difference—Los Jardines de la Plaza is closer to the Port of Entry and downtown.” Moctezuma Park is the neighborhood spot for basketball or a trip to the playground, and Joe Orduño Park, a mile east, hosts community events like the annual 4th of July Freedom Celebration. The park also features a community pool, which is an oasis in the summer, when temperatures regularly exceed 90 degrees. Many locals here are Spanish speakers or bilingual.

Main Street is about a mile east, and leads 2 miles north to Route 95 and about 2 miles south to the U.S./Mexico border. “In the heart of Main Street, you can say there’s traffic, but it’s a really small city so there aren’t hours of traffic,” says Omar Delgadillo, a Yuma County local and a Realtor with Realty One Group Gateway. Yuma County Area Transit buses also stop along Main Street, though most residents drive to get around. Route 95 leads 23 miles northeast to Downtown Yuma and Yuma International Airport. About a mile northeast, San Luis Urgent Care is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., while 22 miles northeast, Yuma Regional Medical Center is open 24 hours a day.

Ranch-style homes dotted with desert trees

Los Jardines de la Plaza's residential streets are lined with sidewalks and dotted with the occasional cypress, rosewood or palm tree. Most homes here are ranch-style and date to the late 20th-century, but there are also a handful of late 20th-century Pueblo-inspired houses with smooth, tan, stucco exteriors and porch posts. Some local homes have been renovated, and all have three or four bedrooms, as well as concrete driveways and drought-tolerant landscaping. “Most of these homes don’t have garages, but they might have carports, and their lot sizes are about 6,500 square feet,” Rosales says. Prices range from $200,000 to $250,000, depending on their renovations, which might include additions like a swimming pool or attached garage.
