Hills and views of the river at North Riverside
North Riverside is a hilly Sandy Springs community that borders the Chattahoochee River, offering quiet suburban living close to the city’s bustling downtown area. “A lot of them are beautiful homes, with beautiful vistas of the river,” says Ronda Smith, president of the Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods. The area is just down the road from a 24-acre nature preserve and less than 3 miles from the City Springs downtown entertainment district.
Large homes in various architectural styles
The community has nearly 200 homes across two subdivisions. “They really are a mixed bag,” Smith says. “There are some mid-century moderns, some more Craftsman styles.” Most homes date back to the 1960s and 1970s, though a few have been torn down and rebuilt. Lots are large, many around a full acre or more, and homes are set back from the street. The average size of homes in the neighborhood is 3,400 square feet, and most sell for between $700,000 and $1 million.
Art and math magnet programs at North Springs High School
Children in the neighborhood are zoned for Spalding Drive Elementary, which has an A on Niche, and Sandy Springs Middle School, which has a B-plus. North Springs High School is rated A-minus. It has multiple magnet programs, including pathways in science, math and engineering, as well as the visual and performing arts.
Proximity to Lost Corner Preserve and the City Green
The 24-acre Lost Corner Preserve is adjacent to the neighborhood. It has walking trails, a community garden and picnic tables. The property used to be a farm and has a renovated cottage dating back to the mid-1800s, which can be rented out. North Riverside is also close to City Green in City Springs, which hosts a weekly farmers market and free summer concerts. The park also has a splashpad for summer fun with the kids.
Plenty of shopping and dining options in the area
Nearby grocery stores include a Publix at the Trowbridge Crossing shopping center and one at the Abernathy Square shopping center along Roswell Road. Abernathy Square also has several restaurants, including the popular City Barbeque and Bawarchi Biryanis Atlanta. Further south along Roswell Road is The Prado mall, which has Target and other retail options.
Transportation, crime and weather in North Riverside
Roswell Road is a major thoroughfare near the neighborhood, leading to Interstate 285. The interstate connects to downtown Atlanta, about 18 miles away. U.S. Highway 19 is another major north-south corridor near North Riverside. A Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, or MARTA, Red Line station is located along the highway. Though the neighborhood sits along the river, locals say its elevation protects most properties from flooding. The CAP Index crime score is 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
