Oakwood Manor offers convenience and recreation in spades
The age-restricted Oakwood Manor is a gated community in central Sarasota, sought-after for its convenient location and amenities. “It’s a residential area, so you have to drive to get to dining and shopping, but there are plenty of options for things to do,” says Jenn Cook, Realtor with Coastal Properties Group.

1970s manufactured homes
Neat rows of almost identical manufactured homes line the quiet, gridded streets. Some are shaded by tall palms or oaks draped in Spanish moss, but most sit in full sun. Rather than attached garages, they feature aluminum carports connected to concrete slab drives and screened-in porches. Square footage runs anywhere from under 600 to more than 1,400. Prices start at around $115,000 and go up to just under $300,000.

Community amenities and things to do beyond the gates
The neighborhood's clubhouse hosts a variety of activities, from bingo and dances to shuffleboard tournaments and card games. It’s also where community organizations, like the Acorn Players theatre troupe and the Miceketeers computer club meet. The Olympic-sized outdoor pool is heated for year-round use. Sarasota County’s Legacy Train runs past the south side of Oakwood Manor, connecting south toward Venice and west to the Sarasota Fairgrounds.
Robarts Arena hosts concerts and trade shows. Outdoor events, like visiting circuses and Sarasota Agricultural Fair, are held on the surrounding fields. The fairgrounds are separated from the community by a series of baseball diamonds, home of the Sarasota Babe Ruth Little League. Thick groves of oaks and scrubby pines shield Oakwood Manor homes from flyballs. “There are also a ton of golf courses in this area,” Cook says, referring to the four courses within a 4-mile radius of the neighborhood.
Oakwood Manor has a large amenity center in the middle of the community.

Shopping and dining on Beneva Road and in downtown Sarasota
Town & Country Plaza and Sarasota Commons, shopping centers on Beneva Road just north of Oakwood Manor, put retailers and restaurants within easy reach. There’s a Publix and a Big Lots, along with a post office and a smattering of casual eateries, like Atmosphere Italian Restaurant and Reyna’s Taqueria. Downtown Sarasota is a 10-minute jaunt west, a few blocks from the waterfront. “Seafood is really good in Sarasota,” Cook says, noting that the best places to eat downtown are “cute little hole-in-the-wall” spots. On Main Street, Duval’s is famous for po’boys, while C’est La Vie is a popular French café.
Oakwood Manor neighbors can enjoy bars nearby for a quick drink.
