Oakland Vale centrally located by U.S. Route 1
Eleven miles north of Boston, the Saugus suburb of Oakland Vale offers late-20th-century single- and multifamily homes with easy access to everyday essentials. “It’s a great location,” says Liana Bevilacqua, a Realtor with Hixon + Bevilacqua Home Group, who has over 12 years of experience. “It’s close to shopping, dining and Breakheart Reservation, which has great walking trails.” U.S. Route 1 provides a direct route to Boston, and Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) buses also stop in the neighborhood. “Oakland Vale has the convenience of everything being steps from your door, but you’re still in a family-friendly neighborhood,” Bevilacqua says.

Colonial Revivals and ranch-style homes in a New England suburb
Set along sidewalk-lined streets, Oakland Vale’s single-family homes are mostly late 20th-century Colonial Revivals or ranch-style houses, but there are a handful of new-construction builds and 19th-century historic houses as well. “You have established homes and neighborhoods with interconnected streets," Bevilacqua says. Colonial Revivals often have symmetrical designs with raised panel window shutters and horizontal or cobblestone siding, while ranch-style homes feature low-pitched roofs and open floor plans; attached garages are typical across styles. Front lawns are dotted with the occasional maple or pine tree. Multifamily homes, including townhomes and condominiums, are often a part of homeowners associations with monthly dues ranging from $150 to $500 that go toward upkeep and shared amenities, like community pools. The neighborhood is also popular with renters, offering several apartment communities, including Residences at Stevens Pond with a fitness center, game room and heated pool.
Smaller single-family homes cost between $500,000 and $800,000, while larger Colonial Revivals range from $900,000 to $1.2 million. Depending on the community, multifamily home prices generally range from $400,000 to $700,000.

Exploring Breakheart Reservation's lakes and trails
Breakheart Reservation spans over 600 acres of woodlands, including freshwater lakes, rolling hills and miles of dirt-packed trails for hikers, cyclists and horseback riders. The 2-mile Breakheart Reservation Loop is a popular route leading past Pearce Lake. “It has a beach, and you can swim there in the summer,” Bevilacqua says. Parkgoers can also fish for largemouth bass or spot birds like chimney swifts, yellow-rumped warblers and house sparrows. In the summer, guided tours and programs like the Wild Breakheart Series offer a deeper exploration of the preserve. Nearby, Golden Hills Playground features a play area, picnic tables and a fishing pond stocked with chain pickerel and American eel. For golfers, Bellevue Golf Club's private, nine-hole course is 2 miles away, while the public, 18-hole Mount Hood Golf Course is 3 miles from Oakland Vale.
