Suburban Neighborhood in Savannah, Georgia
Chatham County 31405
Competitive home prices
Modest 1920s and ‘30s bungalows and midcentury ranch-style homes line the streets here, shaded by towering oak and pine trees. Many have low chain-link fences surrounding small front yards. “There are some older homeowners, but for the most part it’s renters,” says Thomas. “There’s revitalization in the area, people are redoing the houses. And it’s maybe half and half, investors and homeowners; some are investors, and some are homeowners,” he says. One of Thomas’s recent Tatemville listings sold for $175,000, which he says is on the lower end of the price spectrum for the neighborhood. “Homes go for anywhere between $175,000 and $250,000,” he says. That’s well under the median for Savannah, which hovers closer to the $325,000 mark.Tatemville Community Center
Within half a mile of most homes, the local community center offers an array of programs and activities for locals of all ages, from bingo and wellness roundtables to Lunch & Learn events with special guest speakers and after-school programs. There’s even a computer room and reservable meeting spaces for book clubs and card game groups. Outside, practice jump shots on the basketball court or take a stroll along the paved path that circles the lake.
Savannah-Chatham County schools
Local kids attend schools in the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools system. Between kindergarten and eighth grade, many go to Haven Elementary and Myers Middle, both of which earned C-minus grades from Niche in 2024. Older students go to Beach High, which earned a C. Beach High is one of three schools in the district to offer a Medical and Allied Health magnet program. Teens from across the two counties can apply to participate in the program and attend the school regardless of their home address.Planes, cars and buses, oh my
Interstate 516 curves around the south and west sides of Tatemville. The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is less than 14 miles northwest, a drive that takes under half an hour via I-516. Stops along Chatham Area Transit, or CAT, bus lines are within easy reach of most homes, evenly spaced on main thoroughfares like Staley Avenue and Montgomery Street. There are two hospitals close to the neighborhood, too: Candler Hospital and Memorial Health University Medical Center, both within 2.5 miles of Tatemville.Shopping and dining galore
On either side of Abercorn Street, within 2 miles of most homes, there’s everything from popular clothing retailers like J. Crew Factory and Jos A. Bank to grocery stores like Publix and The Fresh Market. For a bite to eat, head to Five Guys, Bonefish Grill or Oak 36 Bar & Kitchen. There’s even a Cold Stone Creamery for satiating sweet tooth cravings. At Donna’s Delicious Delites, locals enjoy all kinds of scratch-made baked goods and soul food. The eatery is even closer to home than the food options on Abercorn, off Montgomery Street on the neighborhood’s east side. And just a few blocks north, Kool Vibes Pizza & Wings serves up classic comfort food with a Jamaican twist. Between Donna’s and Kool Vibes, the main thoroughfare is lined with everything from barbershops and laundromats to convenience stores and auto shops.
