Brick ranches and waterfront estates in a wooded setting

Along the residential streets of Windsor Forest, flowering crepe myrtles and pink azaleas accent brick ranch-style homes. Positioned away from downtown, lots are roomier and homes sit on spacious magnolia-filled lawns, while the occasional palm tree-lined walkway grounds the coastal Georgia scenery. Throughout Windsor Forest, there are also Minimal Traditional models with front stoops, brick cottages with front-gabled roofs and Cape Cods with gabled dormers and front porches. The Berkshire Woods subdivision offers the occasional Greek Revival or split-level home situated on quiet cul-de-sacs. Homes in Windsor Forest range between $200,000 and $450,000 — depending on floor plan and subdivision.

Venture deeper into the forest, and homes closer to the water range from $400,000 to $650,000 — but can climb to $3 million. Grander in design, these are typically New Traditional Craftsman-inspired homes, although other options include ranch-style homes with larger floor plans, Colonial Revivals and a few mansions situated on sprawling estates and featuring in-ground swimming pools and outdoor basketball courts. A select few homes have private docks that provide access to the marsh leading to the Little Ogeechee River.

Shaded playgrounds, walking trails and quiet reading spots

At Windsor Park, under the shade of oak trees, kids can climb through tunnels and glide down the slide on the playground. Recently renovated, Joseph Tribble Park offers a brand-new human-made lake. Take a stroll around the walking trail that circumnavigates the shoreline. Kids can catch some air on the park’s swing set or get dizzy on the merry-go-round. For a quieter environment, take a book to nearby John Henry Murphy Park and read beneath the serene sway of pine trees. This cozy pocket park offers seclusion among cypress and pine, as well as a Little Free Library to exchange books with neighbors. For more active recreation, tee off at La Vida Golf Club. This semi-private golf course is open to the public Monday through Wednesday, but is always accepting applications for new membership. Become a member and enjoy La Vida’s 18-hole course any day of the week.
