Edgewood: the Gateway into Scarsdale
Known as the gateway to Scarsdale, Edgewood is 2 miles from downtown Scarsdale and has some of the city's lowest home prices. “It’s probably one of the most affordable areas of town,” says Kathleen Coleman, an associate broker with Houlihan Lawrence. While Scarsdale generally has a higher price point than surrounding areas, Lawrence notes that the smaller lots and homes make Edgewood a good entry point compared to even pricier neighborhoods. “Most people move for the schools,” says Coleman. “The second is the easy commute to New York City, though there is a lot of working from home these days.”
Edgewood homes often sit on well manicured lawns and have good size driveways.

Revival style homes surround Edgewood Elementary School
The gridded streets of Edgewood surround the local elementary school. Manicured lots and trimmed hedges border homes. Mature trees provide shade for backyards. Some homes have narrow sidewalks out front, mostly on streets bordering or leading directly to the elementary school. Most homes are Dutch Colonial Revival, Colonial Revival and Tudor Revival. There are also several split-levels from the 1950s. Homes range from $975,000 to $2.6 million. While these prices are lower than the rest of Scarsdale, Coleman notes that inventories remain low, so home prices continue to climb. Scarsdale, in general, is appreciated for its public works department. “Garbage is picked up twice a week,” says Matt Martin, the president of the Arthur Manor Neighborhood Association, which often holds local events in Arthur Manor and Edgewood. “One of the benefits here is the government services are top-notch and have been that way for a long time.”
Older homes in Edgewood feature tudor architecture.

Commuters use Scarsdale train station and New York 9A
“There’s a lot of walkability to parks in the neighborhood, and you can walk to the elementary school,” says Coleman. “It’s close to the downtown area, and you can walk there. There’s also an efficient public bus system used to commute to the train. The buses are synced up with the trains. They’re fairly efficient and drop you right at the train. You can also get a transfer credit from the bus if you are taking public transportation in New York.” Commuters using the Scarsdale train station, 1 mile away, can get into New York City in under an hour on the Harlem Line. To reach the city by car, residents head south on state Route 9A, which can lead to the city in an hour, depending on traffic. The Bronx River Parkway leads to LaGuardia Airport, 20 miles away. Bee-Line buses also lead to other areas of Westchester County. White Plains Hospital is 3 miles away.
