Newer builds blend with historic homes
Mature maple and oak trees shade the winding residential streets, bordered by manicured lawns and circular driveways. The Village of Scarsdale has design guidelines for new or modified homes to keep housing styles consistent. “There’s lots of new construction that blends into the older construction,” Sun says. Newly built homes often have New Traditional designs that match the historic homes next door, with dormer windows and porticos. These homes range from about $5.5 million to over $7 million. Existing homes usually feature Colonial or Tudor Revival designs and sell for about $1.5 million to nearly $3.5 million. Because the lots are large, many residents have private tennis courts and in-ground pools. The CAP Index Crime Score for area is 1 out of 10. The national average is 4.
