Bellevue offers proximity to restaurants and employment centers
Bellevue, a residential community on the edge of Schenectady, is known for its abundance of vintage housing styles and peaceful suburban character. "Ninety percent of my buyers are people that are coming from the city downstate," says Moonrani Gumani, a local real estate agent at Miranda Real Estate Group with more than 10 years of experience in the industry. She says they value the affordability compared to Albany, as well as easier parking. "They're so happy here, that's what I hear from them." Many residents are within walking distance of a thriving small business corridor on Broadway, home to lunch cafes and other community staples. Besides local businesses, manufacturing facilities on the community’s north side, including General Electric, have attracted blue-collar workers and families looking for an easy commute.
Victorian-era and midcentury housing with grassy yards
Throughout Bellevue, homes are arranged neatly with uniform setbacks and grassy front yards, dotted with pine trees. Though many of the area’s older homes lack garages, most properties have long driveways and there’s still lots of space for street parking. Single-family homes include mostly Craftsman properties, American Foursquares from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and a smattering of midcentury ranch-style homes. Depending on age and condition, these properties typically range from $90,000 to $320,000. Many of the area’s older homes have been converted into duplexes and triplexes, often used as investment properties for rental income. Typically, these multifamily properties range from $100,000 to $400,000, depending on size.
Many staple restaurants are found along Broadway
Broadway is a central commercial corridor cutting through Bellevue, providing residents with many popular local restaurants. Capri Imports Italian Deli is a community favorite, including a small food market and a sandwich shop that draws large lunchtime crowds. Down the street, Bellevue Café has been family-owned and operated since 1988, serving Italian staples and American fare. In addition to smaller shops and markets, there’s an Aldi less than a mile away.
Nearby schools offer well-regarded fine arts programs
Van Corlaer Elementary and Mont Pleasant Middle both earn a C-minus from Niche. The elementary school has benefitted from recent investment in infrastructure. “Von Corlaer Elementary was recently remodeled over the summers of last year and this year,” Gumani says. The B-minus-rated Schenectady High includes a robust arts program known as the John Sayles School of Fine Arts. Housed in a 42,000-square-foot wing of the school’s campus, facilities include a video production studio, black box theatre and a dance studio where students can take jazz, tap and ballet classes.
New athletic courts at Hillhurst Park and other recreation centers
Hillhurst Park is the area’s main green space, home to playgrounds, climbing structures and six pickleball courts added in 2023. In addition to casual pick-up games, the Mohawk Pickleball Club organizes an annual Summer Slam pickleball tournament every September. The smaller Fairview Park has basketball courts and grass fields. On rainy days, locals can head to Sportsman’s Bowl, an indoor bowling alley on the neighborhood’s east side, or the nearby Via Aquarium.
Several nearby interstates, about 3 miles from downtown Schenectady
Located within a few miles of interstates 90 and 890, Bellevue is less than 3 miles from downtown Schenectady and less than 20 miles from Albany. Capital District Transportation Authority operates local bus routes with many stops along Broadway. Bellevue is also under 5 miles from Ellis Hospital and 15 miles from Albany International Airport.
Community events downtown during the holidays
Bellevue locals are only a few miles from community events in downtown Schenectady, including the annual holiday parade. A tradition for over 55 years, the parade features sparkling floats, marching bands and an appearance from Santa Claus.
