Greater Valley Brook offers access to shopping and highways
Greater Valley Brook is an established residential community near popular shopping areas and major highways. "It's a cute little area," says local Realtor Juli St. George of Keller Williams Realty Intown Atlanta. She's sold homes across Atlanta for over a decade. "It's well-situated for lots of shopping and easy living. You're close to the highways and tucked into a little neighborhood pocket." International grocery stores and the popular Your DeKalb Farmers Market offer nearby shopping options, and Interstate 285 allows easy access to other areas of Atlanta. St. George also says that residents here are friendly. "After work, you'll see lots of folks walking around the neighborhood with their kids or dogs."
Greater Valley Brook sits in a suburban area that's a 20 to 30 minute drive from downtown Atlanta, depending on traffic.

A mix of established ranch-style homes and contemporary townhomes
Greater Valley Brook offers diverse housing options. "It's a mixture between new builds and more of the Atlanta brick ranches we see all over the place," St. George says. "It's a lot of workforce housing from the 1950s." Ranch-style homes typically measure 1,000 to 1,750 square feet and have at least three bedrooms. Condominiums and townhomes started to pop up in the 1960s, measuring just under 1,000 square feet with two bedrooms. A wave of development brought about several 21st-century subdivisions with contemporary townhomes, condos and colonials. With several new builds in the mix, housing values vary. "There's a pretty big swing on pricing depending on the product," St. George says. Housing prices can range from $200,000 to $660,000; typically, the newer the home, the higher it lists for. A few modern homes built in the early 2020s are listed between $800,000 and $1.2 million.
Newer Townhomes are increasing in popularity throughout a few different areas of Greater Valley Brook.
Greater Valley Brook has a strong sense of community for it's long-standing residential vibe.

A neighborhood park and a nature preserve
At the heart of the neighborhood is Washington Park, which St. George says is a good place to take the dogs on a walk. The woodsy park features a small playground, pavilion and green space. Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve, located just west of the community, is home to hundreds of plant and animal species. "It's a conservancy, so it will always be there," St. George says. "It's a really neat spot." Several undeveloped trails stretch across the preserve's 28 acres. Medlock Park is 3 miles west of Greater Valley Brook and features several sports facilities and a seasonal pool.
The Clyde Shepherd Nature Preserve is the perfect place to explore and become one with natural surroundings.

The Patel Brothers grocery store offers groceries and spices from South Asia. Getting around Atlanta
Greater Valley Brook is a car-dependent community about 19 miles from downtown Atlanta. While the neighborhood is near U.S. Route 78 and Interstate 285, St. George says commuters can avoid the highways when navigating Atlanta. "North Decatur Road is a major throughway and main vein of Atlanta," she says. "It takes you through the city, and it's nice to use local surface roads instead of hopping on the highway." MARTA buses serve the community and stop along DeKalb Industrial Way. Emory Decatur Hospital is just south of the community.
