A gated north Scottsdale community anchored by an exclusive golf club and luxury resort
Once a working Arabian horse ranch, the gated community of Scottsdale’s Gainey Ranch offers luxury living and 24/7 guard-gated security at each of its two entrances. The neighborhood is immediately east of the major artery of Scottsdale Road, adjacent to Paradise Valley. “It's in one of the most exclusive areas in Metro Phoenix,” says longtime area resident Denise van den Bossche, an associate broker and team leader at Realty Executives. “I have clients from Japan, the U.K. and France who all own second homes here,” Bloom says. “People from around the world, when you mention Gainey Ranch, their ears just seem to perk up.” The community is anchored by the exclusive Gainey Ranch Golf Club and the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch. “Everything was designed with views of the golf course,” van den Bossche says.
While residents can find shopping and dining right in their own community, Gainey Ranch is roughly 6 miles north of Old Town and Downtown Scottsdale with some of the Valley’s most upscale and popular destinations. “Being in real estate and having sold all over the Valley, it’s one of the best location-wise,” says longtime Gainey Ranch resident Dee Bloom, a former board member for 28 years and an agent with Schilling Fine Homes. “If someone wants a central location, Gainey is the place.” While the community once primarily catered to empty nesters and retirees, its proximity to Scottsdale’s shopping, dining, nightlife and entertainment scene has attracted a younger crowd in recent years, with many families with young children now calling it home.

A variety of luxury housing options behind the gates
Gainey Ranch is made up of over a dozen smaller satellite communities inside the two guard-gated entrances, many of which have their own electronic gates. Homes here were constructed throughout the 1980s and 1990s, though most have since been renovated and updated. Modest townhouses and patio homes start around $500,000, while larger luxury units with significant upgrades on the golf course can go for up to $2 million. Detached single-family homes start around $1 million, while those with larger floor plans and private swimming pools on the golf course can go for up to $5 million. Most homes within the community have two stories, adding to the appeal of those with one level. “The single-stories are coveted,” van den Bossche says. “They go really fast.” While many homes have Spanish-style influence with clay-tile roofs and stucco exteriors, many also feature more contemporary architecture. According to Bloom, each satellite community was built by a different contractor, which creates variation in the look and feel of each subsection.
While the community is home to snowbirds who stay for the winter months, more people than ever before are staying year-round. “When I first moved here, I would say about 75% of the residences were second homeowners but now I’m finding those demographics changing,” Bloom says. “People aren’t buying second homes like they used to. I would say right now it’s about 50/50.”
Larger Gainey Ranch Homes can climb to five million.
Smaller Townhomes are also available within the gated Gainey Ranch community.

Recreation opportunities at the Estate Club, golf course, Hyatt, and a local park
At the community’s sprawling clubhouse, the Estate Club, which recently underwent a $7 million renovation and expansion, all Gainey Ranch residents have access to an Olympic-sized pool, six tennis courts, six pickleball courts and a fitness center. “The fitness center is a really big deal, and a lot of residents know each other from there or from golf or tennis,” van den Bossche says. Several of the satellite communities also have access to their own swimming pools, tennis and pickleball courts.
Members also have access to the golf course with three nine-hole courses that provide panoramic views of the McDowell Mountains. The Lakes Course sits on Gainey Ranch Lake and features a waterfall, while the Dunes Course is surrounded by desert landscape. The Arroyo Course is the longest and most challenging of the three and has a peninsular green. Visitors to the Hyatt have access to additional recreational amenities, including a pool with a sandy beach. Residents can also ride on the gondolas at the lake while being serenaded by rowers. In the community’s southeast corner, the 8-acre Rotary Park is open for picnicking and has a multipurpose field for soccer and football as well as a playground for kids.

The Museum of Illusions has 60 interactive exhibits that will have guests questioning their own reality with 60 mind-boggling exhibits, and visitors to the UFO Experience can learn about unexplainable sightings through real government documents and 911 calls. Paradise Earth is the largest indoor rainforest in North America, and visitors can explore different levels from the forest floor to the canopy. The rainforest is home to thousands of free-flying birds and monkeys swinging through the branches above. At night, the rainforest becomes illuminated with color and turns into an electronic light show.
Residents can explore an eclectic array of art galleries and museums roughly 6 miles south in Downtown Scottsdale including the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art with rotating exhibits and a sculpture garden, and Scottsdale’s Museum of the West, which celebrates America’s Southwest with exhibits featuring artifacts from Native Americans and cowboys.

A convenient commute throughout metro Phoenix via the 101 and Scottsdale Road
Gainey Ranch is bordered to the west by Scottsdale Road, a major north-south thoroughfare through the East Valley. Residents can also find Valley Metro bus stops lining this route, connecting riders with stops throughout the Phoenix area. The community is just a few miles west of Loop 101, providing an easy commute to metro area destinations. Local shopping and dining options just miles north of the Valley’s most premiere destinations
Residents have access to dining options on the neighborhood’s southeast side at the Shops at Gainey Ranch, where Wally’s American Gastropub serves elevated pub fare and house-made pasta alongside craft cocktails and draft brews. On the community’s southwest side, the Shops at Gainey Village is home to a larger selection of local eateries. Hash Kitchen is a local favorite for brunch and offers mimosa flights and a build-your-own bloody mary bar, while Pomo Pizzeria Napoletana is a staple for classic Italian complete with a house-made gelato bar. Stores like Carine, FEMME and Brynn Walker specialize in women’s clothing and accessories, while At Ease Men’s Fine Clothes is a go-to for classic men’s fits. For home decor and furniture, The Collector’s House appeals to a variety of tastes, while the flagship store for Oliver Smith Jeweler sells designer jewelry and watches alongside custom pieces. There’s also a Sprout’s Farmer’s Market here for groceries. According to Bloom, residents commonly walk to the Shops at Gainey Village and the Shops at Gainey Ranch as opposed to driving. "It’s a big feature, because Scottsdale itself is so spread out,” Bloom says. “You always see people walking and carrying groceries from Sprout’s.”
Gainey Ranch Residents are also roughly 5 miles north of Scottsdale Fashion Square, an upscale, three-story mall with over 200 brand-name stores. Just south of the mall, Old Town Scottsdale is a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly hub with tons of restaurants, retailers, and nightlife options.
