Desirable homes with luxury amenities
“You can find anything from a $17 million house to a $600,000 condo here,” says Wagner. The average home price is about $780,000, and prices typically range between $400,000 and $1 million, while new, one-of-a-kind construction can balloon up to multi-million-dollar price tags. “There’s a wide range of houses: a lot of townhomes, a lot of older homes and newer homes.” Single-story townhomes from the late 20th century start around $325,000 and are typically a part of homeowner’s association communities like Scottsdale House near Old Town, where residents enjoy shared amenities like a fitness center, community pool and clubhouse. Ranch-style, single-family homes from the mid-to-late-century with up-to-four bedrooms start around $600,000 and typically feature either traditional grass lawns or rock gardens with low-water plantings; versions that include attached garages or private pools can go for $800,000 or more. Homes built after the 2000s are inspired by a variety of architectural styles, including New Traditional and Spanish Revival, and usually range between $1 and $10 million; in this price range, homebuyers can expect amenities like heated pools, sprawling gardens and Camelback Mountain views.Enjoying Chaparral Park and Talking Stick Golf Club
Chaparral Park is centrally located along Hayden Road; the 100-acre park features plenty of sports amenities, including six multi-use fields, two basketball half-courts and two sand volleyball courts. “There’s a little lake, too,” says Wagner. The 10-acre Chaparral Lake offers boat access and is stocked with local game fish, including catfish, trout and sunfish. Wagner recommends the Chaparral Dog Park for pet owners, where furry friends can run free under the Arizona sun with access to dog water fountains; the area is split into two sections, one for smaller dogs and the other for larger breeds. About 5 miles north, Wagner recommends the Talking Stick Golf Club; the club offers two 18-hole courses set by tree-lined fairways and serene views of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. “People love it,” says Wagner. “It’s designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, which, if you have any taste in golf architecture, you know they’re generally regarded as the best.”Scottsdale Unified District schools receive high marks from Niche
Indian Bend is zoned for the Scottsdale Unified School District, which Niche rates A overall. Local kids can attend Kiva Elementary, Mohave Middle and Saguaro High, all of which are A-rated. At Kiva Elementary and Mohave Middle, kids can get a head start in STEM-related fields by joining the robotics club offered at both schools. Saguaro High is a COGNIA STEM Certified School, which means Saguaro has demonstrated a strong and effective roadmap for students to get involved with STEM learning; students in Saguaro’s Scottsdale Math & Science Academy have access to advanced STEM courses and related resources tailored for those interested in careers in the field.Scottsdale events draw crowds from across the country
“We really hit it hard in January, February and March: there’s the Phoenix Open, Barrett-Jackson Car Auction, spring training, and then smaller events like the Original Taste.” The latter is hosted by Executive Council 70, a volunteer organization that has raised more than $10 million for charities in the past five years. “It’s an awesome outdoor event with a concert and about 10 participating local restaurants. You get little bites of their food as you walk around; it’s a big deal for charity.” Other events, like the Phoenix Open on the PGA tour and the Barret-Jackson Car Auction, where folks can bid on classic and luxury cars, attract attendees nationwide. Spring training for Major League Baseball is another draw, and Indian Bend residents are within 15 miles of Sloan Park, Tempe Diablo Stadium and Hohokam Stadium, where the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics play.Getting around Scottsdale
Indian Bend is about 20 miles northeast of Phoenix, or a 30- to 60-minute drive, depending on traffic. Most locals drive to get around the Phoenix Metropolitan Area, and Highway 101 is reachable less than a mile east of the neighborhood. Indian Bend is typically walkable along urban streets, but there are also Valley Metro buses throughout Scottsdale. For medical needs, HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center is about 3 miles south and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is 12 miles southwest.Local shopping and dining near Old Town
“We’ve got all the shopping; all the amenities of Scottsdale are here,” says Wagner. For groceries, residents head to Trader Joe’s or AJ’s Fine Foods in Lincoln Village Shops on North Scottsdale Road; this commercial corridor is lined with dining options, too, like Blanco Cocina + Cantina, an authentic Mexican restaurant serving up tacos and tequila craft cocktails in a casual, beachy setting that can also be rented out for events. About 3 miles south of Chaparral Park, locals can reach Old Town, a local hub for all things shopping and dining: browse department stores like Nordstrom and H&M at the Scottsdale Fashion Square or support local businesses like Flower Bar, a florist shop that also hosts floral workshops, and Cosi Bella Boutique, a clothing and jewelry store. For a fine dining experience, Wagner recommends Café Monarch in Old Town. “It’s the most unique setting I’ve ever seen,” says Wagner. “There’s a pre-set menu; very formal, and the food is out of this world.”
