Luxurious life with a view in Pinnacle Peak

Looking out from the high desert north of Phoenix, residents of Pinnacle Peak have access to a laid-back, luxurious lifestyle and the beautiful natural surroundings of Arizona's Sonoran Desert and rocky ridgelines. "Homes here tend to be high-end and custom-built, and most residents belong to private communities, so there's everything from highly rated golf courses and resorts to world-class restaurants," says Stan Abraham, a local Realtor who has sold homes throughout the greater Phoenix area since 2004. With nearby parks and plenty of community space to get outside, from tennis and pickleball courts to swimming pools, residents here can easily recreate in Arizona's outdoors. "The blooming saguaro cactus and views up here are just out of this world. Plus, the temperatures here are cooler year-round than down in the Valley," Abraham says. Close to top-rated schools, outdoor activities and convenient shopping in Scottsdale, Pinnacle Peak combines a suburban location with a picturesque natural environment.

Million-dollar homes in Maricopa County

Set between private golf courses and a rugged desert environment, Pinnacle Peak is made up of several gated communities. Ranging from Santa Fe and Spanish Revival designs to strikingly modern styles, every home in the neighborhood is unique and custom-built. "Most of the homes were constructed in the 1970s and 80s, and all of them are single-level custom builds. The homes having so much character and all the lush vegetation here has made the neighborhood very charming," says Julie Pelle, who is a Realtor and area specialist for Compass, as well as a resident of the neighborhood for over 10 years. The neighborhood's picturesque architecture includes classic Arizona details like earth tones, dramatic angles and stucco exteriors. Many properties also come on generous parcels of land, with between 2,800 and 5,000 square feet of space inside. Prices start around $1.25 million and run up to $5 million. Pinnacle Peak has a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.

Heading outdoors in Pinnacle Peak

Just north of the neighborhood, Pinnacle Peak Park is one the most popular destinations in the area, boasting over 150 acres of expansive desert landscape. The Pinnacle Peak Trail stretches nearly 2 miles, taking hikers through the park's rugged environment and leading to sections designated for rock climbing. Park-goers can expect to see a fair amount of wildlife while traversing the trail, as the park is home to bobcats, Gila monsters, desert tortoises and rattlesnakes. A selection of private and public golf courses are also situated in and around Pinnacle Peak, so residents are never far from a rolling fairway. Notable private courses like the Scottsdale National Golf Club and the Desert Mountain Golf Club, which includes the Chiricahua, Cochise and Geronimo courses, require invitation-only memberships, but public courses like the Troon North Golf Club are also available.

Top marks for Paradise Valley Unified School District

Students in Pinnacle Peak may attend schools in Paradise Valley Unified School District, which receives an A rating from Niche and is rated as the sixth-best school district in Arizona. Pinnacle Peak Preparatory, which teaches pre-K through eighth grades, is just 2 miles from the middle of Pinnacle Peak and receives an A rating from Niche. Horizon High School receives an A-minus and is known for offering student activities ranging from theater and marching band to football and soccer. Those looking for a Catholic high school can also send their kids to Notre Dame Catholic College Preparatory High School. Located in the neighborhood, the school receives an A from Niche and is rated as the third-best Catholic high school in the state.

Community events in Pinnacle Peaks

While Pinnacle Peak residents have plenty of options for entertainment in surrounding areas, they also enjoy having plenty to do in the neighborhood. "It's nice for residents to have amenities like tennis courts, pools and golf courses, but community clubhouses also have spa experiences and events like wine-tasting and cooking classes," says Abraham.

Getting around the greater Phoenix area

About 20 miles north of Downtown Scottsdale, residents of Pinnacle Peak can get to the city by driving about 30 minutes south along Arizona State Route 101. To get to Phoenix, residents can take a 30-mile, or about 45-minute, drive along the Piestewa Freeway to get into the heart of the city. For those who own or would like to charter private planes, Scottsdale Airport is just ten miles south of the neighborhood, while, for public flights, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is about 30 miles down the road. The closest hospital, Scottsdale Thompson Peak Medical Center, is also just south of the neighborhood, located right on Scottsdale Road.

Scottsdale-local options for shopping and dining

Shopping and dining are also nearby, with several shopping centers located along Pinnacle Peak Road at the intersections of Pima and Scottsdale Roads. For a gourmet grocery shopping experience, residents prefer shopping at AJ’s Fine Foods. With a wide selection of chef-prepared meals, a butcher’s corner and more, AJ's is a one-stop shop, but nearby options like Target are also available for everyday essentials. From fall through early spring, residents can explore all the fresh produce, local clothing, and handcrafted items they want at Farmers Market North Scottsdale. Throughout the year, residents head to spots like First Watch for tasty breakfast and lunch dishes or the nearby Spotted Donkey Cantina for Mexican fare. In addition to private, award-winning dining opportunities within certain communities of Pinnacle Peak, residents can also find high-end dining options at restaurants like Talavera, which is located within the famed Four Seasons luxury resort. With lavish desert views, the Four Seasons' Talavera restaurant is a contemporary Spanish steakhouse with an array of Latin-inspired menu items.

Know before you go

While Pinnacle Peak is in Arizona and residents can expect sun all year, temperatures are also cooler than other areas lower in the valley due to the neighborhood's elevation. Because of this, residents can stay cool year-round, but should also expect dustings of snow in the winter.
