Mediterranean-inspired homes and condos
Among the 40 subdivisions here, folks can find single-family homes, condos and townhomes. Scottsdale Ranch’s single-family homes were built in the late 20th-century and are generally Mediterranean-inspired with tan stucco facades and red-tiled roofs. Set along winding, sidewalk-lined streets, these three-to-six-bedroom homes typically have layouts ranging from 1,300 to 2,000 square feet; yards are landscaped with either manicured lawns or rock gardens with low-water succulents, like agave and saguaro cacti. Attached multi-car garages and fenced-in backyards with covered patios are typical, and private pools are popular additions. Prices generally range from $500,000 to $800,000, depending on a home’s size and features. Late 20th-century waterfront homes in subdivisions like Lakeview Estates are typically larger, with layouts ranging from 2,500 to 4,000 square feet and special features like lakeside decks. Depending on size, prices for waterfront homes range from $900,000 to $2 million. All homes here have monthly HOA dues ranging from $40 to $500 that go toward community upkeep.Mediterranean-inspired condominiums in condo communities like The Racquet Club and townhomes in communities like the 55-plus Heritage Village IV were both built in the late 20th century and have one to two bedrooms. Condo layouts generally range from 700 to 1,000 square feet, while townhomes’ layouts range from 1,100 to 2,000 square feet. Condos range from around $200,000 to $350,000, and townhomes range from $400,000 to $600,000, depending upon size. Heritage Village IV residents have access to private amenities, including community pools and tennis courts, but also share access to the rest of the amenities in Scottsdale Ranch.
Afternoons at Scottsdale Ranch Park
“People are very active here,” Miller says. The man-made, 42-acre Lake Serena has five miles of shoreline, and residents here can rent kayaks and paddle boats to take on the water; the lake’s also stocked with largemouth bass and bluegill. The 64-acre Scottsdale Ranch Park is another neighborhood highlight, known for its expansive tennis center with 18 outdoor courts and lessons for all ages. The park’s also popular for its playground and other sports, like sand volleyball, baseball and basketball. There’s also Desert Garden Park, a butterfly garden with a hummingbird nest and native desert flora. About 7 miles north, the McDowell Sonoran Preserve offers dirt-packed trails with scenic desert mountain views for hiking, biking and horseback riding.Scottsdale schools receive high marks from Niche
Scottsdale Ranch is part of the Scottsdale Unified School District, which Niche rates A overall. Local kids can attend Laguna Elementary before moving on to Mountainside Middle, both rated A. Teens move on to the A-minus-rated Desert Mountain High, which offers the International Baccalaureate program and Advanced Placement courses. Students here may also participate in over 50 clubs and organizations, like robotics, hiking and the Taylor Swift club.Year-round events for the community
The Scottsdale Ranch Community Association regularly hosts events to bring residents closer, like Food Truck Fridays, new resident welcome parties and the annual Fishing Derby at Lake Serena. “There are so many community events throughout the year, that the entire subdivision feels like one big family,” Munoz says. Neighbors can get cozy and watch some of the latest blockbusters at Scottsdale Ranch Park on Movie in the Park nights and make a difference at the annual American Red Cross Blood Drive in November. The annual Lake Festival in March is a local favorite, where folks can enjoy a pontoon boat ride before capping their day off with a lively barbecue. There are also community clubs residents can join, like jazz, golf and mahjong.Getting around from Scottsdale Ranch
Route 101 is found 2 miles west, which leads 10 miles south to Old Town Scottsdale and loops around the Greater Phoenix Area. Most locals are car-dependent, but residential streets here are typically sidewalk-lined and bike-friendly. “You have to have a car, in my opinion. You don’t want to be sitting at a bus stop when it’s 100 degrees,” Miller says. Along East Via Linda, the neighborhood thoroughfare, residents can ride the Scottsdale Trolley and take Valley Metro buses. “You can also take one of those Waymos that are dominating the area. It’s exciting, but a little freaky when you see a car driving next to you with no driver,” Miller says. HonorHealth Scottsdale Shea Medical Center is about a mile west, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is 17 miles southwest.Dining in Mercado at Scottsdale Ranch
Mercado at Scottsdale Ranch, a retail plaza, is conveniently located in the middle of the neighborhood and within walking distance of some residences, offering a mix of small businesses, locally owned eateries and national chains like Walgreens and Planet Fitness. Eggstasy’s the spot for a boozy mimosa breakfast, while family-owned Goldie’s Sports Cafe has been a staple for over 30 years for its laidback setting and happy hour specials. For an intimate date night, Voila French Bistro offers an extensive wine menu and authentic French cuisine, like escargot and duck leg confit, in an elegant setting with soft lighting. To satisfy a sweet tooth, there’s also Scoop and Joy with ice cream and boba tea. There are a few other shopping centers within a five-mile radius of the neighborhood as well. The Scottsdale Fiesta Shopping Center is 2 mile west, where folks can grocery shop at Sprouts and browse superstores like Marshalls, OfficeMax and PetSmart.Extreme heat and wildfires
Due to the Sonoran Desert climate, summer temperatures here regularly top 100 degrees; lake trips are a popular way to beat the heat, and private pools are desirable additions. There haven’t been any recent wildfires in the area, but Scottsdale Fire Station 4 is less than 2 miles west and responds to emergencies. Residents may sign up for Maricopa RAVE Alerts to receive emergency weather notifications.
