Sweeney’s Beach hosts multiple annual events, including RiverFest, which features a “Duck-A-Thon” race down the Lackawanna River, where locals bet on launched wooden ducks to win a river race. The ShiverFest has also been held at Sweeney’s Beach, where canoers and kayakers brave an almost 3-mile stretch on the Lackawanna River in the middle of snowy January. Recent construction has improved safety around the river as well, as “it really doesn’t flood like it used to,” Cognetti says. The Office 5K also runs through part of Pine Brook. The event is inspired by the show’s “Michael Scott’s Dunder Mifflin Scranton Meredith Palmer Memorial Celebrity Rabies Awareness Pro-Am Fun Run Race for the Cure.” Participants of all fitness levels come together, dress as their favorite characters, play quirky games and even have the chance to win a “Dundie Award.”

The County of Lackawanna Transit System (COLTS) runs through Pine Brook and connects residents to the whole county.
