Short drive from downtown Scranton
Tripp’s Park is a small neighborhood that sits 2 miles outside of downtown Scranton. The streets are filled with independent businesses where people can purchase a cupcake or shop for antiques. Because US Route 11 runs through the middle of town, it is easy for residents to access nearby malls and big-box stores. Residents can connect with nature at Tripp Park or spend their weekend at the Houdini Museum, Tour & Magic Show. Students here are served by the Scranton School District and can participate in athletics and other extracurriculars.

Local businesses are community staples
Residents can grab a bite to eat at one of the restaurants in town, including Farr Street Tavern, which serves bar food with a twist. For a sweet treat, people visit the family-owned Kosher bakery, National Pastry Bake Shop. “They’re like a landmark,” says Mary Beck, owner of Central Station Marketplace & Antiques. Her store has been in Tripp’s Park for three years, although she has been running it since 2017. People go grocery shopping at Gerrity’s or Giant, which is less than 1 mile away. For more retail and dining options, they can travel the 3 and a half miles to Viewmont Mall or the 2 miles to The Marketplace at Steamtown. Any other essentials can be found at Walmart, 3 miles away, or Lowe’s, about 4 miles away.

Locals celebrate in Scranton
Scranton hosts several events throughout the year that residents of Tripp’s Park can attend. The monthly First Fridays encourage people to engage with local restaurants, galleries and stores. Annual events include the Saint Patrick’s Parade, which is the second-largest Saint Patrick’s Day celebration in the country. “We actually had a float in the parade,” Beck says. The whole community gets involved, with businesses, nonprofits and clubs being able to join the procession.
Scranton schools feature famous fictional alum
Part of Scranton School District, students can start at Isaac Tripp Elementary School, which is rated C by Niche. They can attend South Scranton Intermediate School, which scores a C-minus, before becoming an Invader at West Scranton High School, which earns a B-minus. The high school has a large athletics department, including a softball team with several all-state players. West Scranton High School is rumored to have a famous fictional alum, Jim Halpert from “The Office.” Private schools in the area include Scranton Preparatory School, which earns an A.
Isaac Tripp Elementary School is a PK-5th grade school in the Scranton School District.
West Scranton Intermediate School is a 6th-8th grade school in the Scranton School District.

Home to the Houdini Museum
Residents can get some fresh air and exercise at the playground and basketball courts at Tripp Park, which sits next to Isaac Tripp Elementary School. Families can also bring their children to the Cayuga Field and Playground or travel less than 1 mile into Rockwell Park, where they can play baseball and explore the swings and slides.
Tripp’s Park is home to the Houdini Museum, Tour & Magic Show, the only museum in the world dedicated to Harry Houdini. People can watch a magic show there and learn about Houdini and some of his most famous escapes. The neighborhood is also 2 miles from the Steamtown National Historic Site, where people can study the history of steam engines. The Circle Drive-In is an outdoor movie theater that shows films and hosts a weekly flea market from March through November of each year. It is 5 miles away.

COLTS travels from Tripp’s Park to Scranton
The County of Lackawanna Transit System (COLTS) has several routes that run through Tripp’s Park, carrying residents to Gerrity’s, Viewmont Mall, the Steamtown National Historic Site and other destinations in greater Scranton. US Route 11 goes through the middle of the neighborhood and runs parallel to Interstate 81, creating an increased traffic flow. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is 10 miles away and offers flights to popular US cities and connections to international destinations.
