A quiet oceanfront neighborhood close to downtown
A small arch made of stones with five buckets on top sits near the Pacific coast in Cartwright Park, not far from where Lewis and Clark’s historic voyage ended. The structure is a replica of the salt cairn the Corps of Discovery team used to boil ocean water, produce salt and preserve their food for the trip back to Missouri. The cairn lies along the famous Seaside Promenade, in the calmer Cartwright Park neighborhood south of downtown Seaside. “It’s a lot quieter than other parts of Seaside. That’s why it’s desirable,” says Todd Braden, a broker with Soldera Properties. “You’re within striking distance of downtown and that’s where all of the wine bars and restaurants and arcades are, but at the same time, you are not affected by it on a daily basis.”

Beaches and sport tournaments draw a crowd in Seaside
Seaside’s beaches are one of the community's main draws. Visitors can hike along the sandy shore, dig for razor clams or fly kites, but if they want to keep their feet clean from the sand, they can walk along the paved 1.5-mile oceanfront Seaside Promenade trail, nicknamed “the Prom.” The trail leads north to downtown, where it passes a turnaround known as the end of Lewis and Clark’s trail, or where they turned around to return inland.
The beaches of Seaside host several popular athletic events, including the Seaside Beach Volleyball tournament, which is the largest in North America. Four days of volleyball competitions with various divisions invite more than 40,000 visitors to the coastal community every year. The Hood to Coast Race Series and Relay encompass 196 miles from the top of Mount Hood to Seaside, having sold out for 36 consecutive years out of 42.
