An array of housing near Florida Botanical Gardens
Deerwood Gardens is a compact neighborhood with three distinct personalities: part mobile home community and condo units and part single-family villas with grassy front lawns. “It also has this pastoral vibe with a lot of trees all over the place. It’s in an unincorporated county,” says Brian Walsh, a Realtor with SkyCoast Realty Group. Several beaches, major highways and attractions like the Florida Botanical Gardens neighbor Deerwood Gardens.
Mobile homes, condos and villas, oh my!
Boca Ciega Mobile Home Park, a 55-plus subdivision, makes up the northern half of Deerwood Gardens. Manufactured homes are painted in pastels and often have two bedrooms and carports on concrete slabs. Prices vary between $120,000 and $160,000, depending on square footage. South of Boca Ciega Mobile Home Park are one-story condos, some rented and some owned. Homebuyers can expect these two-bedroom units to be priced between $200,000 and $250,000. Single-family properties are also one-story but offer a garage and around 1,500 square feet of living space. These villas start at around $405,000 and climb to $650,000 for those recently remodeled.
Families take part in Pinellas County Schools
Students are enrolled in Pinellas County Schools, which receives an A-minus from Niche. The neighborhood’s youngest can attend Fuguitt Elementary and Osceola Middle schools, which have B-plus and B scores, respectively. Seminole High School also earns a B-plus. Students can join several career-driven academies, like aviation and health care.
Strolls in Walsingham Park
One of the biggest perks of Deerwood Gardens is its proximity to Walsingham Park, home to the Florida Botanical Gardens, an art gallery and trails. “Walsingham Park is really one of my favorite parks. I used to go all the time since it’s so close,” Walsh says, adding that the park recently added new playground equipment. “There is also a place adjacent to it on 102nd Ave that’s very equestrian. I see girls on horses just scootin’ down the road, doing horse stuff.”
For a day on the fairways, Largo Golf Course is almost 3 miles away. This 18-hole, par-62 golf course also hosts concerts every third Friday. Cyclists and joggers can hit Pinellas trail, connecting them to St. Petersburg and as far north as Tarpon Springs. Though Clearwater Beach is the closest beach, Honeymoon Island is the local preference.
Surrounded by Clearwater shopping hubs
Seminole Boulevard frames the eastern side of the neighborhood and offers a variety of big-box stores and quick bites. “Seminole has everything you need, and you can always find parking,” Walsh says. “You grab dinner over there and then walk over to the beach.” For local restaurants, Seminole Subs & Gyros in Largo Shopping Center is known for hot sandwiches and sweet treats, like baklava and cannolis. Heading south is a Winn-Dixie across from Big Jim's Famous, a no-frills bar offering craft beer and typical bar food like pizza and burgers.
Close to attractions and Clearwater-St. Pete celebrations
The Florida Botanical Gardens hosts an array of annual events, such as story times and educational programs. Bigger, more popular celebrations are held in Clearwater and St. Pete, such as St. Pete Pride.
Getting in and around Deerwood Gardens
While U.S. Highway 19 borders Deerwood Gardens to the west, most locals take other routes. “Everyone takes 113th street to avoid [U.S. Highway] 19,” Walsh says. “It’s an unspoken backroad, which is nice to have.” Interstate 275 leads to Downtown Tampa within 25 miles. St. Pete is 19 miles south. Clearwater is also a pit stop along the Jolley Trolley’s beach route, which travels as far as Tarpon Springs. St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport is 5 miles south.
