Ranch-style homes with large yards in West Mobile
West of downtown Mobile, Ferry is a mostly residential area. As with many suburbs, it’s not very walkable, but with the extra space comes larger lot sizes. The neighborhood’s large yards are often lined with tall trees and leafy hedges. Homes are rarely on the market, but those that are listed tend to be ranch-style homes with brick or vinyl exteriors. Previous listings range between $115,000 and $200,000, and recent available listings go up to $250,000. “It’s an affordable place to live. The houses are usually smaller and one-story,” Sims says.Close to Langan Municipal Park
Ferry is close to Langan Municipal Park, which features a splash pad and playgrounds for children. The park also has a disc golf course and a walking trail around a small pond. The park also features a foot bridge that connects to Mobile Museum of Art. In addition to galleries, the museum offers art classes and community socials. On the Glenn Sebastian Nature Trail, walkers and joggers can venture through forests and take boardwalks over ponds dotted with lily pads. And they can spot wildlife from birds to turtles. Golfers can schedule a tee time at the public Azalea City Golf Course.Mobile Public Schools
Children may start at Allentown Elementary, which earns an overall B grade on Niche. Students may then attend Semmes Middle, which earns a C-plus, and Montgomery High, which earns a B-minus. The high school offers unique programs like the Academy of Agri-Business and the Academy of Business Management. The annual Greater Gulf State Fair
Also nearby is the Mobile Flea Market, the largest such market on the Gulf Coast. It's is open Saturdays and Sundays and features over 800 booths. At The Grounds, residents can go to the annual Greater Gulf State Fair, a 10-day extravaganza of rides, live music and rodeo. The Grounds also offers events year-round, says Realtor Aleta Boudreaux with Azalea Real Estate Agency. Boudreaux has over 40 years of experience selling homes. “The Grounds is really popular, and not just during the fair,” she says. “We have concerts and events like chocolate tastings and antique shows. That and the University of South Alabama are the biggest draws to West Mobile.”Transportation around Ferry
