High school has many specialized career programs

Public schools in the neighborhood are overseen by Mobile County Schools; there are a number of private religious-affiliated schools in the area as well. Semmes Elementary boasts a 9-out-of-10 rating on GreatSchools, while Semmes Middle School has a C grade on Niche. Mary G. Montgomery High School has a C-plus grade on the site and is known for offering a number of specialized academic programs. The school features an Academy of Biomedical Sciences, an Academy of Agri-Buisniess and an Academy of Engineering Sciences, to name just a few.

Downtown is a 17-mile drive

While Pamona is part of the outer ring of Mobile’s suburban development, it’s still just 17 miles from Downtown Mobile Via Highway 98 and Interstate 165, a drive that typically takes less than 30 minutes. Diverse and plentiful dining options

While the vast majority of Pamona is made up of forests, farms and residential blocks, ample shopping and dining can be found along neighborhood thoroughfares. Locals can pick up groceries at the Winn-Dixie in central Semmes or grab some new threads at G& B Sportswear. More extensive retail options, including department stores and a Walmart, can be found a couple of miles down U.S. Highway 98. Dining options in Pamona are surprisingly diverse. Hickory Pit Too serves some of the best barbecue in the Mobile Suburbs, but when locals want to try something new, they have a number of highly rated international eateries to choose from in the neighborhood, including Tacos El Charro, Sakura Sushi & Hibachi and Sabai Thai Cuisine.
