Adolescence never looked so easy. Incorporated in 2011, the city of Semmes is entering its teen-age years with aplomb thanks to an engaged city government, a scenic rural backdrop and a close-knit vibe. The community’s roots date to the early 1900s when it developed to support the Semmes Land Company and its railroad. Railroad concerns gave way to plant nurseries, which now dot the region. These bright flower outlets often specialize in ornamental shrubs like azaleas and camellias. Named for the creek running through it, Red Creek is a neighborhood in Semmes beside U.S. 98, which rolls into greater Mobile. Red Creek is home to a handful of established subdivisions while new subdivisions are popping up across the region. What is driving area growth? Homebuyers seeking proximity to Mobile-area jobs as well as a small-town sense of community.
