Lakeview is a centrally located waterfront community in south Sheboygan
A small suburban neighborhood on the shores of Lake Michigan, Lakeview is within walking distance of its namesake park, industrial employment centers and local schools. Midcentury homes are set close together on the neighborhood’s west side, adjacent to Wilson Elementary and Sheboygan South High. On the other side of the neighborhood, locals can access the lakefront for things like fishing or paddleboarding. Bars and casual eateries, including the longstanding Meyer’s Lakeview Pub, line the neighborhood's north border.
Midcentury ranch-style homes on narrow parcels
Most homes in Lakeview were built in the 1960s with minimalist ranch-style architecture, though a few 1920s Craftsman bungalows are also dotted around the neighborhood. Vinyl siding and low-slung shingle roofs are most common, with some homes featuring partial brick or stone exteriors. Properties are set close together with attached one-car garages. Compact front lawns are uniformly flat and green, often shaded by mature maple trees. Prices typically range from $200,000 to $300,000 for a three- or four-bedroom floor plan.
Programs and activities at nearby Sheboygan schools
Wilson Elementary, which earns a B from Niche, hosts an annual Fall Fest fundraiser, where students and families gather to play games and participate in a silent auction. The C-plus-rated Farnsworth Middle offers a range of after-school activities, including archery in the fall and soccer in the spring. The B-rated Sheboygan South High includes the Red Raider Manufacturing program, in partnership with local manufacturing companies and Lakeshore Technical College. The district opened the $5 million Kohler and Johnsonville Advanced Technology Center in 2016, housing state-of-the-art equipment. Just south of the neighborhood is Sheboygan Christian School, a B-rated private school that serves all grade levels.
Traveling the greater metro area using local buses and Interstate 43
Downtown Sheboygan is about 3 miles north. Interstate 43, the main highway in Sheboygan, is accessible about 2 miles away and leads 55 miles south to Milwaukee. Shoreline Metro bus routes stop along the neighborhood’s north and west borders, and some major roadways have designated bike lanes. Aurora Medical Center Sheboygan County is less than 5 miles away, and residents drive about 60 miles south to Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport for commercial flight service.
Playgrounds, fields and waterfront recreation at Lakeview Park
Lakeview Park, the neighborhood’s namesake, is located on the banks of Lake Michigan, featuring a playground and a bandstand surrounded by pines and grassy fields. On the park's edge, unpaved walking trails guide visitors through the bushes to the lakeshore, where they’ll find sandy beaches and fishing piers. Just outside the neighborhood, Roosevelt Park has basketball and tennis courts.
Local bars and restaurants serve mostly standard American fare
There are a few small businesses on the neighborhood’s north side. Meyer’s Lakeview Pub has been a community staple for over 40 years. Andy’s Corner Restaurant & Bar serves sandwiches and other diner food. The locally owned House Divided Sports Bar & Grill, which serves American fare, is decorated with a mix of Chicago and Green Bay sports memorabilia to honor the family’s favorite teams and conflicting allegiances. Lucky Star Food Market has groceries within walking distance, while Piggly Wiggly is less than 2 miles away.
Proximity to industrial centers and train tracks
On the edge of Lakeview, adjacent to the neighborhood’s namesake park, there are several major industrial centers, including the Sheboygan Power Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residents are generally unaffected by industrial operations, though railroad tracks border the neighborhood on the south side, and passing trains can contribute to noise pollution.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
