Most homes in Lakeview were built in the 1960s with minimalist ranch-style architecture, though a few bungalows and Cape Cods are also dotted around the neighborhood. Vinyl siding and low-slung shingle roofs are most common, with some homes featuring partial brick or stone exteriors. Properties are set close together with attached one-car garages. Compact front lawns are uniformly flat and green, often shaded by mature maple trees. Lakeview Park, the neighborhood’s namesake, is located on the banks of Lake Michigan, featuring a playground and a bandstand surrounded by pines and grassy fields. Wilson Elementary, which earns a B from Niche, hosts an annual Fall Fest fundraiser, where students and families gather to play games and participate in a silent auction. The C-plus-rated Farnsworth Middle offers a range of after-school activities, including Archery in the fall and soccer in the spring. The B-rated Sheboygan South High includes the Red Raider Manufacturing program, in partnership with local manufacturing companies and Lakeshore Technical College. The district opened the $5 million Kohler and Johnsonville Advanced Technology Center in 2016, housing state-of-the-art equipment. Downtown Sheboygan is about 3 miles north. Interstate 43, the main highway in Sheboygan, is accessible about 2 miles away and leads 55 miles south to Milwaukee. There are a few small businesses on the neighborhood’s north side. Meyer’s Lakeview Pub has been a community staple for over 40 years. Andy’s Corner Restaurant & Bar serves sandwiches and other diner food. The locally owned House Divided Sports Bar & Grill, which serves American fare, is decorated with a mix of Chicago and Green Bay sports memorabilia to honor the family’s favorite teams and conflicting allegiances. On the edge of Lakeview, adjacent to the neighborhood’s namesake park, there are several major industrial centers, including the Sheboygan Power Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant. Residents are generally unaffected by industrial operations, though railroad tracks border the neighborhood on the south side, and passing trains can contribute to noise pollution.
