North Sheboygan offers a wide selection of housing options

North Sheboygan has attracted first time homes buyers with a broad variety of homes paired with quick access to shopping and dining. “If you’re east of North 15th Street… tends to be older homes with character going back to the early 1900s, it's close to Lake Michigan, and it's always been a popular neighborhood,” says Jeffrey Moenning, a broker/owner at Century 21 Moves, who sells in the area. “The northwest side is more populated with ranch-type homes built probably in the 70s and 80s, just a whole different style of house, certainly newer than the northeast side, so that’s how the city grew, it started on the northeast side and went outward.” The neighborhood also has several job centers and is a quick commute to downtown Sheboygan and Kohler.

Classic homes combine with newer home styles

Home architecture can vary from bungalows, four squares and Colonial Revivals to the northeast, while the northwest has more ranch styles and split levels. New Traditionals are on the western side of Interstate 43. Multifamily units and HOA-controlled Condos are also present. Prices east of the interstate generally run from $135,000 to $500,000, while the western end can range from $260,000 to $640,000. Some properties can also cost over $1 million. “Both northside neighborhoods, north of Geele Ave, [have a] very different feel,” says Moenning. “People want that either classic house with charm and character or they want something on one floor.”
Moenning notes North Sheboygan has attracted mostly “first-time buyers and young people.” Properties east of the interstate are on a gridded layout with small lots and mature oak trees accenting lawns and sidewalks. A rail line cuts through the area along 17th Street. According to Federal Emergency Management Agency maps, flooding risks are present along the Pigeon River. Properties on the western side generally have larger lots and cul-de-sacs and less tree cover.

Higher-rated public school options with open enrollment available

Students can start at Pigeon River Elementary, rated B-minus on Niche. They can continue to Urban Middle School, also graded B-minus. North High School earns a B-plus and offers career courses in finance, manufacturing or architecture. Pupils are allowed to attend a different district via Wisconsin’s Open Enrollment Program.

A variety of green spaces and golf courses throughout North Sheboygan

North Sheboygan has multiple green spaces, including Evergreen Park, featuring a playground, baseball diamond, paved paths and several shelters. Firehouse Park has a splash pad and courts. The Ellwood H. May Environmental Park is a conservation reserve with several hiking and skiing trails and a museum on the local ecology. The park also hosts community events such as an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast in March and a native plant sale in September. Quarry Park has a public beach, swimming holes and kayaking, but only opens in summer.

The community has several golf courses, including the private Pine Hills Country Club, featuring a 6,400-yard layout and event space. The Sheboygan Town & Country Club is open to the public and has a 27-hole configuration and several indoor simulators. More attractions and events in Downtown are three miles south.

Dining and shopping along State Trunk Highway 42

Restaurants are primarily along State Trunk Highway 42 or 15th Street and include a mix of chains and locally owned spots. Dina’s Diner serves breakfast items and is open for lunch. Shuff’s Last Resort has sandwiches, steaks and burgers. The Silver Fern on 15th offers a full bar and daily specials.

State Trunk Highway 42 has multiple big box stores near Interstate 43, including Walmart and Menards. A Piggly Wiggly is located on 15th Street.
