A suburban Central Arkansas city with plenty of green space

Sherwood, a neighbor of North Little Rock, gives a nod to Robin Hood on its city logo, depicting a bow and arrow next to its name, all in shades of green. The legendary outlaw was said to have lived in England’s Sherwood Forest. While Arkansas’ Sherwood has no forest, it does have several recreational amenities. The city of about 33,000 residents also sits between Little Rock Air Force Base and Camp Joseph T. Robinson. “It is a wonderful place to live,” says Elizabeth Phillips, an executive broker with Michele Phillips & Company Realtors. “Both military bases are right there, so there is a heavy military presence, but the city has a lot of recreation opportunities and things to do.” Others work in the healthcare and retail industries, as large companies like Walmart Inc. have locations in Pulaski County.

New construction of Craftsman bungalow homes

The median price of a city home is $235,000, far less than the national average. Houses are on the market for an average of 35 days. Ranch-style homes and Craftsman bungalows sit within cul-de-sacs. Homes are less expensive in Gravel Ridge, a semirural area annexed by Sherwood in 2008 that has a mix of midcentury and contemporary homes. “The market is moving fast on cheaper properties,” Phillips says. “More expensive houses still move, but they definitely sit a little longer.” The city puts an emphasis on sidewalks and walking trails to suit its active community.

In addition to its military uses, Camp Robinson contains more than 30 miles of mountain biking trails that are open to the public with advance notice.
