True to its name, the village of Shoreham sits on bluffs above the shoreline, offering lakefront properties and proximity to nearby public beaches. “It’s huddled right up to Lake Michigan, and you have beautiful views — beautiful Lake Michigan sunsets and lake breeze,” says Realtor Ben Stephen of Cressy and Everett Real Estate. The community features full-time Michiganders as well as a small seasonal population. “It’s probably about 60 to 75% permanent residents, but there is a community of Chicago seasonal residents,” Stephen says.

Although Shoreham is on the shore, most residents can’t easily access the water. “The majority of the shoreline here is just views of the lake because there are steeper bluffs,” Stephen says. “There are some homeowners association communities and private homes that have steps to the beach, but no docks or lake slips.” Instead, residents can head up to Silver Beach in St. Joseph. “It’s like a little California up there in the summer,” Stephen says. Inland at treelined Shoreham Downs Park, a walking trail encircles the playground, soccer field and baseball diamond. Locals can also stop at the free little library to pick up a new book. South Shore Health and Racquet Club has an indoor pool, tennis and pickleball courts.

From condos to custom lakeside homes with picture windows
Driveways branch off Lakeshore Drive, including several homes that sit farther away from the road to get closer to the lakefront. Because Shoreham is residential, it doesn’t have restaurants of its own, but there are plenty of nearby options. Coach’s Bar and Grill serves Southern comfort food like barbeque, jambalaya and chili. Diners can eat outside at the pavilion and order drinks at the outdoor bar. Tosi’s offers Italian fare, making some of their pastas in house. Martin’s Super Market and a Meijer are both within 3 miles of Shoreham, while Walmart, Aldi and a second Meijer are about 7 miles away.
