Briarcrest is a residential neighborhood in southeast Shoreline. Bordering the city of Lake Forest Park, Briarcrest is less than 2 miles from the northwest side of Lake Washington and approximately 12 miles north of Downtown Seattle. There are several public schools and community parks in the area. Some streets have sidewalks, some are edged with strips of gravel, and there are many trees, such as pines, maples and oaks. Shoreline has an Urban Forestry Program and promotes tree planting through the Communi-trees Program. The city aims to have 40% tree canopy coverage by 2050.

Briarcrest's older and newer home options
Briarcrest's older homes include early 20th-century cottages and midcentury ramblers. Briarcrest Neighborhood Association was founded in 1997
The Briarcrest Neighborhood Association (BNA) promotes communication and opportunities in the neighborhood. The volunteer-run association celebrated its 27th anniversary with a party in April 2024 at Shoreline Christan Reformed Church. Other BNA events include a summer picnic in Hamlin Park.
Hamlin Park, Lake Washington and the Burke-Gilman Trail
Outdoor community spaces close to Briarcrest homes include South Woods Park, which has trails and is heavily wooded. Hamlin Park, which has baseball and softball fields, a horseshoe pit, a playground and trails is one of the parks under the city's Park Bond Project, with expected closure, upgrades and a possible renaming during 2024 and 2025. A spooky tradition at the park is the Hamlin Halloween Haunt, a free event with hayrides, a campfire and games. Eastside Off-Leash Dog Area is close to Shorecrest High School. Several miles from Briarcrest is Cromwell Park, where Celebrate Shoreline, the city's annual birthday party, is held in August.
The city has a free volunteer-led program called Shoreline Walks, which allows people to explore different neighborhoods, parks and trails. Examples include a 3-mile walk through the Briarcrest neighborhood and Acacia Cemetery, the Hamlin Park cardio walk and a North City to Shoreline Park loop walk. Lake Washington sites include Log Boom Park and Log Boom Pier. Sheridan Beach is a private community members' only beach. Passing the shoreline and parks is a portion of the 20-mile, multiuse Burke-Gilman Trail, which was built on a former railroad corridor. The trail continues into Seattle.

Spanish at Briarcrest Elementary and Kellogg Middle
Public schools include Briarcrest Elementary School, which earns an A grade from Niche and has a Spanish dual language program. The program can be continued at Kellogg Middle School, which has an A grade. The Shoreline School District has a multilingual learning program, as about 20% of the area's students speak another language at home. The languages most highly represented in the area are Spanish, Amharic, Korean, Vietnamese and Tigrinya. Shorecrest High School receives an A and has a performing arts center with a seating capacity of 451. Cascade K-8 Community School is a district-wide application-based choice school several miles to the north in Ballinger.

FloAnna's Diner, Botteco Brazil, Safeway and Sheridan Market
To the south, where state Routes 522 and 523 meet, there are some businesses and restaurants. FloAnna's Diner is known for its breakfast dishes and homestyle dinners. Botteco Brazil has a meat-centric menu and creative décor like wood paneling, colorful art and burlap coffee sacks adorning the ceiling. To the north, on 15th Avenue Northeast, there's a commercial area with a Safeway and other stores.
In Lake Forest Park, east, toward the lake, there's Sheridan Market. Previously the site of a roadhouse, the location became home to Sheridan Market in 1952. It's listed on the Washington Heritage Register of Historic Places and now operates as a coffee shop and event venue rather than a grocery store. "We have food for some of our events; my husband makes the most awesome chicken and pork adobo," says Paula Goode, co-owner, along with her husband, Ernesto Pediangco. Goode, a city council member, and Pediangco, a professional musician, are highly involved in the community. "We support live music and community events; that's what we are here to do," Goode says. "We attract a lot of musicians from all over, and we have a lot of families that attend." As a venue, the market has hosted high school bands, political campaign fundraisers and various gatherings and parties.

Between Link light rail stations, I-5 and SR-522
Briarcrest is between Interstate 5 on the west and state Route 522 on the east. Bus service is available on King County routes. One goes from Shoreline Community College to Kenmore Park & Ride, and another from Shoreline South/148th Station to Mountlake Terrace Station. Briarcrest is between two Sound Transit's Link light rail stations that opened in 2024. The Shoreline North/185th Station and the Shoreline South/148th Station are stops on the 1 Line from Angle Lake to Lynnwood City Center. Stops include Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and over a dozen Seattle neighborhood stations. Seattle Paine Field International Airport, also known as Paine Field and Snohomish County Airport, is about 15 miles north of Briarcrest and has passenger flights on Alaska Airlines.
Briarcrest has access to two light rail stations at 145th and 185th streets.
