Eclectic landscaping and cozy properties for commuters
This neighborhood has many homes with eclectic landscaping, some with juniper bushes, rose gardens and towering evergreens above fenced-in backyards. Ridgecrest features contemporary houses, ranch-style homes and Craftsman-style cottages built in the 1950s. The average house size is about 1,500 square feet and the area is still developing. "Because of the new light rail station and all of Shoreline's housing options, people in the tech industry don't mind the limited square footage," says Kathe Trost, Broker at Windermere Real Estate Seattle-Greenwood. Single-family housing prices begin at $500,000 and reach $1.3 million for homes over 3,000 square feet. Townhouses cost between $300,000 and $600,000.Hiking at Hamlin Park or exploring the Jackson Park Golf Course
Woodland hiking trails wind through Hamlin Park, extending 1.5 miles around public art displays and baseball diamonds. More baseball fields are at Paramount Park, a recreation area with a concrete skate park. The Paramount Open Space area has a gravel path that traverses a hidden forest between two residential areas. Northcrest Park is another green space with a shady nature-themed playground. The Jackson Park Golf Course opened in 1930 and borders Ridgecrest with a driving range and an 18-hole course. The neighborhood is also about 4 miles from open waters and sandy beaches in Log Boom Park on Lake Washington and Richmond Beach on the Puget Sound.A-rated schools across the board
According to Niche, the Shoreline School District is Washington's 10th-best school district. Ridgecrest Elementary School earns an A-minus grade from Niche and has a rich history, opening in the 1940s. Kellogg Middle School has an A, with a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1. Shorecrest High School also receives an A and provides a collaborative learning community with AP classes and competitive athletic programs.Convenient access to I-5 and the Shoreline South light rail station
Shoreline South Station opened in 2024 in Ridgecrest, offering light rail access to Downtown Seattle and the University of Washington. This neighborhood also borders Interstate 5, with easy access to the freeway. Downtown Seattle is about 10 miles south of Ridgecrest. The King County Metro, Community Transit and Sound Transit all provide bus service to the Shoreline area. This enclave is about 2 miles east of retail areas, shops and restaurants along Aurora Avenue. Ridgecrest also has a selection of local eateries. Formerly an office space, Ridgecrest Public House is a modern neighborhood pub serving appetizers, a rotating selection of wine and 18 beers on tap, mostly from breweries north of Seattle. The social space is a community staple, with warm lighting and patio seating. Brileys BBQ and Grill serves brisket dishes with sides like cornbread in a rustic atmosphere with plenty of natural light. Safeway is a supermarket on 15th Avenue, while Trader Joe's is on 175th Street.
