New subdvisions and homes among the pines south of Shreveport
Welcome to Ellerbe Woods, a slice of country living within Shreveport city limits.
Regarded by many as one of the most desirable areas in Shreveport — with its privacy-granting subdivisions and spacious modern homes — this residential neighborhood is full of mature towering pines and gently meandering streets.
Bordered by Wallace Lake, it's a perfect locale for nature lovers, while maintaining easy access to Interstate 49, Ellerbe Road and Highway 1, creating a restful haven without sacrificing the comfort and convenience of suburbia. “The Ellerbe Woods area is very green but convenient to a lot of shops,” says Courtney Lowry, a local real estate agent with Ramsey-Hoffpauir Associates. “It’s the country in the city. At night, you can still see the stars.”

Million-dollar homes and gated communities
There’s plenty of room to build in Ellerbe Woods, and lots cost between $25,000 for a small plot and $250,000 for a half-acre next to one of the area’s smaller lakes. Much of the area remains undeveloped. Half of the area’s 6,000 or so homes were built after 2015. Home prices generally start at around $300,000 for a 2,000-square-foot home with three or four bedrooms. If the price seems too good to be true, keep in mind that it’s relatively high for the local market — the average home value throughout the city is $160,000. From there, prices rocket to somewhere between $800,000 and $3 million, with numerous custom-built estates and expansive modern single-family homes in gated subdivisions.

Country club lifestyles in the emerging suburbs
Nearby, the East Ridge Country Club is continually improving to meet and exceed the needs of its guests. A semi-private club with a variety of membership options, it has a championship course that opened in 1955 and has been one of the Shreveport area’s most popular golfing destinations since. The club hosts social events and activities like bingo nights, fireworks and brunch with Santa. It’s also home to one of the largest aquatic facilities in the region, with pools for children, competition and social swimming, as well as nine hard and clay tennis courts. Even farther south in the neighborhood, Southern Trace Country Club offers guests similar experiences in more modern accommodations following a $4.2 million renovation that updated its golf course and added new pickleball courts.
At the far south end of Ellerbe Woods, folks can escape to the deep woods of pine and cypress at Milton James Cameron Memorial Park. Named for a local philanthropist and barber, the one-acre park is primarily used as a boat launch for canoes, kayaks and small motorized boats into Wallace Lake.

Easy access to highways and I-49
Ellerbe Road, a largely rural two-lane roadway and one of the community’s main thoroughfares, leads to Interstate 49 and the Inner Loop Expressway. This makes it easy for commuters to reach downtown and busier parts of Shreveport about 10 miles north. On Route 1, which parallels I-49, folks can also reach the LSU Shreveport campus and major retail centers with big box stores and supermarkets, including Target, Lowe’s and Whole Foods about 5 miles north of the neighborhood.
