Classic American style and robust industry in western Ohio

Drive-in movies, county fairs and the winding waters of the Great Miami River await residents in Sidney, Ohio. Connected to Dayton via Interstate 75, this small city of about 20,000 people exemplifies classic Midwestern charm with a restored downtown district, robust natural areas and a mature market of suburban homes. Residents are also a short drive away from major industrial jobs in Shelby County. “It’s a small city, so it’s got that village-type of atmosphere. Everybody knows everybody, and you’ve got a few small businesses downtown,” says Kevin Lee Frazier-Jones, an agent with Gay Smith/Associates in Sidney who has lived in the area for over 30 years.

Hiking, swimming and summer fun at Tawawa Park

The city’s parks and recreation district maintains 18 neighborhood parks, including Tawawa Park. Located on the east side of the city, this flagship park spans 200 acres and includes green space, walking trails and protected wildlife areas along the bends of the Great Miami River. Softball, baseball and soccer fields at the neighboring Flanagan Sports Complex and Custenborder Park make the area a hub for youth sports. Two water slides are a summertime highlight at Sidney Water Park.

Sidney residents have a four-season lifestyle, bundling up for 18- and 19-degree lows in January and cooling off at the local pool in July. “Sometimes it can’t decide whether it’s gonna be warm or chilly, but when the winter hits, it really hits, and when the summer hits, it gets hot,” Frazier-Jones says.
