Pueblo del Sol
Fun in the Huachuca Range and nearby playgrounds
The Huachuca Mountains are about 10 miles west of the neighborhood, and they’re a popular spot for recreation. Hiking trails cover this steep range, and elevated campgrounds provide views of the San Pedro Valley below. Huachuca Peak is the closest summit to the neighborhood, clocking in at 8,400 feet, but neighboring Miller and Carr peaks go above 9,200 feet. Mountain View Golf Course is in the eastern foothills of this range, on the grounds of Fort Huachuca. This 18-hole course is open to the public, and as the name suggests, it has fairway views of the mountains. While these recreation spaces are a short drive from Pueblo del Sol, neighborhood parks are even closer. Purple Heart Park is next to Pueblo Del Sol Elementary, and it has a covered picnic area and playground. Chaparral Village Park also has a playground, in addition to a multiuse field and basketball court.Doc’s Watering Hole for a line dance, Vinny’s for a slice
Among the many restaurants on state Route 92, Doc’s Watering Hole is relatively new to the scene. Victoria Holts and Aaron Hennequin, a married pair of U.S. Army veterans, started this bar and line dancing spot in 2022, and it’s been a local favorite ever since. “We named it Doc’s because we both have our doctorates. I’m doc one, and he’s doc two,” Holts says. “We’ve won awards in town for our burgers and wings, but I like the artichoke and white bean sandwich. We have a lot of vegetarian and vegan options.” This space hosts free line dancing lessons on Thursdays, live music on Sundays, karaoke on Tuesdays and many other rotating events. In the same parking lot, Vinny’s New York Pizza has been serving pies since the 1990s. The Mall at Sierra Vista has more restaurants and retailers such as Best Buy and Hibbett Sports. Just north, Coronado Village Shopping Center has Target, Walmart and other department stores. Food City and Safeway offer grocery options.Ranch-style homes in the Chihuahuan Desert
One of the older neighborhoods in Sierra Vista, Pueblo del Sol’s ranch-style homes were mostly built in the 1970s and ‘80s. Their style is typical for the desert, with stucco exteriors and tile roofs. Yards are gravel but usually have some bushes or mesquite trees; driveways are short but big enough for a few cars. Prices range from $175,000 to $320,000. The median sale price here is around $250,000, slightly less than Sierra Vista's overall median. Higher-end listings usually have additional square footage and sizeable pools.Walking to Pueblo Del Sol Elementary, short drives to other schools
Pueblo Del Sol Elementary is central in the neighborhood, within walking distance of many homes. Niche gives it a B rating and ranks it No. 6 for diversity in the county, ahead of roughly 30 other schools. West of the neighborhood, Joyce Clark Middle gets another B. Buena High is north with a C-plus. Its students lead 30-plus clubs and organizations and participate in nearly 20 different sports. Cochise College’s Sierra Vista campus is a community college on the north side of town, and it was built in the 1970s.Driving around Sierra Vista, state Route 92
Pueblo del Sol is a small neighborhood, so residents can walk or bike. However, most people drive around town. Snyder Boulevard, Foothills Drive and Camino Del Norte are the main routes through the neighborhood, and state Route 92 runs along its western side. Traffic is usually free-flowing on these thoroughfares, even during rush hour. Alternatively, Sierra Vista Transit operates its Blue Line through the neighborhood from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with buses leaving every hour. Canyon Vista Medical Center is on the northern side of Sierra Vista. Tucson International Airport is about 70 miles northwest of town, and the U.S.-Mexico border is roughly 30 miles southeast.
