Coral Cove, a sought-after waterfront community

The Gulf of Mexico's white sand beaches aren’t the only thing that draws homebuyers to Coral Cove. The community also offers access to retail shopping, a bevy of seafood restaurants and highly rated public schools. “You have the convenience of Siesta Key at your fingertips, all with the urban lifestyle of Sarasota’s downtown all within 15 minutes,” says Realtor Rachel Tritschler, who sells homes in the neighborhood with RE/MAX Alliance Group. “There is a good variety of people in different stages of life.”

Waterfront and inland homes

Inland ranch-style houses with stucco exteriors and clay tile roofs typically sell for between $450,000 and $1 million. Most of the ranch-style homes were built in the 1960s and 70s. Early 2000s Mediterranean-style houses overlooking the cove are generally valued between $2.5 million and $6 million. These homes often have boat piers. Many of the houses in the canals still have boat piers but run for between $1.2 million and $3 million.

Greenspaces within walking distance

Residents drive a mile to spend the day on Crescent Beach. Locals can walk to the 60-acre Phillipi Estate Park, which offers fishing piers, a kayak launch and miles of trails. The park’s Edson Keith Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Residents go for walks and have picnics at Sarasota Memorial Park. Golfers spend afternoons on the fairways of the 36-hole TPC Prestancia.

Local seafood restaurants and big-box retail

The Boatyard Waterfront Bar & Grill serves surf and turf dishes and cocktails. A number of shops and restaurants are located along Tamiami Trail on the neighborhood’s eastern border. Many residents start their days with a cup of joe at Palma Coffee. Pho 101 Noodle House serves authentic Vietnamese dishes, and Dutch Valley is known for its all-day breakfasts. Napulè is known for its classic Italian seafood dishes. There are also chains like Wendy’s, McDonald’s and Dunkin’. Retail options like JCPenney, Burlington, Hobby Lobby and Costco are concentrated in the Sarasota Square shopping mall, directly to Coral Cove’s southeast. Residents buy most of their groceries at the Publix on Mall Drive.

Activities and entertainment in Sarasota

Residents take out their aggression against pins at Bowlero Gulf Gate on Tamiami Trail. Folks catch new film releases at Sarasota Square’s AMC theater. Residents can travel 6 miles north to the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens to walk among 15 acres of tropical plant life. Ed Smith Stadium, 7 ½ miles north of Coral Cove, is the spring training home of the Baltimore Orioles. Locals take their boats out on the Gulf of Mexico or flock to the beach for Sarasota's annual Fourth of July fireworks show.

Highly rated public schools

Local children often start their educations at Gulf Gate Elementary, which has a 15-to-1 student-teach ratio and an A-minus Niche rating. The A Niche-rated Sarasota Middle School has a student body that is 82% proficient in math and 78% in reading. Riverview High School has an A Niche rating and offers Advanced Placement classes.

Getting around Sarasota

Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is 10 ½ miles north of Coral Cove. There are public bus stops along Tamiami Trail. Residents can navigate the neighboring island of Siesta Key using the Breeze Trolley along State Route 758. The free trolley takes riders from the far north to the far south end of the island. Tampa is 66 miles north via Interstate 75, and Fort Myers is 71 miles south via Interstate 75. “Residents have to deal with a lot of traffic sometimes when they are getting on and off the island of Siesta Key. The bridges get locked up,” Tritschler says.
