A traditional hometown surrounded by modern growth
Siloam Springs is a Northwest Arkansas city that has managed to move forward at its own pace in one of the country's fastest-growing regions. While former small-town peers such as Bentonville and Rogers have experienced transformative modern growth, Siloam Springs has retained its hometown feel. What began as a resort destination in the late 19th century when its springs were found to have “medicinal qualities” is now a charming city of nearly 20,000 on the Oklahoma border anchored by its historic city center. “It’s such a sweet community with nice schools, a big hospital and a great downtown with boutiques, coffee shops and parks, and Sager Creek runs right through it,” says Misti Stephens, managing broker at Crye-Leike Real Estate Services and city resident. “It’s so cute; it’s like a Hallmark card.”

New construction, historic homes and traditional housing among the residential options
The median housing price is about $250,000, about the state average. “We’re still keeping up with the prices in Northwest Arkansas, but since we’re a little removed from the bigger cities, you might find a better deal here,” Stephens says. New construction can be found in several developments on the city’s outskirts. These homes are often built with brick construction and offer driveways and attached garages. Craftsman and Victorian styles stand out among the older housing in and around downtown. Ranch and contemporary homes on spacious lots are common throughout the city. Siloam Springs is one of only four communities in the state with its own electric utility, which keeps prices down for about 10,000 residents. The city’s temperate climate features all four seasons. Extreme temperatures and severe weather are rare in Northwest Arkansas.

Simmons Foods anchors the city's industrial base
Simmons Foods, Inc., a poultry, pet, and animal nutrition supplier, the leading supplier of store-brand wet pet food in North America, is headquartered in Siloam Springs. It is the anchor of the city’s manufacturing economy, which also includes La-Z-Boy and the Gates Corporation. “We have lots of industry, so you have all the workers living here, but the executives also want to live locally,” Stephens says.

Pour Jon's Coffee, Park House Kitchen + Bar are popular downtown destinations
Downtown streets are lined with historic buildings that house a variety of stores and a diverse collection of popular eateries. “There’s the Café on Broadway, Pour Jon’s coffee house, Fratelli’s Italian and the Park House Kitchen + Bar,” Stephens says. “It’s a nice mix.” The Sager Creek Arts Center and the Siloam Springs Museum are popular cultural attractions. Downtown also hosts the annual Dogwood Festival, a signature event that draws around 40,000 visitors to the district on the last full weekend of April. More retail and dining options are found at several shopping centers along the Mt. Olive Street and U.S. Highway 412 commercial corridors.

Memorial Park, City Lake Park, Siloam Springs Kayak Park provide waterfront recreation
A variety of amenities-filled parks and green spaces are concentrated downtown. Memorial Park and Twin Springs Park on either side of Sager Creek host concerts and other regular events. Away from downtown, City Lake Park and Siloam Springs Kayak Park are popular waterfront destinations. The kayak park is located along the Illinois River. The Siloam Springs Rodeo Grounds hosts another of the city’s signature events each summer. The Cherokee Hotel & Casino, just across the border in West Siloam Springs, is a popular spot for more leisurely pursuits.
City Lake Park, north of Siloam Springs, has multiple bike paths, tracks, and dock access.
In 2014, the Walton family helped finance the opening of the Siloam Springs Kayak Park.

John Brown University has been part of the community since 1919
The Siloam Springs School District, which earns a B-plus from Niche, serves about 4,500 students. Its five schools are rated between B and B-plus. John Brown University, a private Christian school established in 1919, also earns a B-plus. “The university has always been involved here,” Stephens says. “Part of the school’s orientation is that the students go out and serve the community.”
U.S. Highway 412, Interstate 49 make Northwest Arkansas easily accessible
U.S. Highway 412 runs through the city. It connects west to Oklahoma and east to Interstate 49 about 25 miles west in Springdale. “We are easily accessible to either end of the I-49 corridor,” Stephens says. “We are at the tip of the triangle — 30 minutes from Fayetteville and 30 minutes from Rogers.” Close to home, low-cost public transportation is available for the elderly and disabled with 24 hours notice. Siloam Springs Regional Hospital is a full-service medical center. Northwest Arkansas National Airport is a 20-minute drive.
