Right next to Reading

The Whitfield neighborhood rests between Wyomissing and the farmland west of town, offering a more peaceful and rural feeling community than much of the Reading area. Whitfield has seen its population grow dramatically since the start of the 2000s as families have flocked to this suburban community, but they’re not the only demographic the neighborhood appeals to. Many retirees call Whitfield home, earning it a ranking as the 4th best place to retire in Pennsylvania, according to Niche. It is also ranked in the top 50 communities by Niche in all of Pennsylvania to both live in and buy a house in. With relatively low home prices and proximity to many of the Reading area’s amenities, many buyers are taking notice.

Most homes were built in the late 1900s

Prices in the neighborhood are very modest overall, helping give Whitfield its distinction as one of the best places in the whole state to buy a home. Listings tend to fall between $300,000 and $500,000, though newer custom-built houses may sell for above $700,000. Most residences were constructed in the 1970s and 1980s, and colonial-inspired bi-levels are common sights on Whitfield’s streets, as well as a handful of ranch-style builds. “As soon as something gets listed in Whitfield, it gets a lot of activity,” says Jerry Buffa, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Realty who works in the neighborhood. “It’s quiet, priced right, close to schools and shopping; there’s a lot of reasons people are drawn to the community.”
