Slow-paced living in Kingswood
Located about 7 miles southwest of downtown Sioux Falls, Kingswood is a traditional Midwest suburb anchored by a large community park. Many neighborhoods around the city have newer developments, but Kingswood is more established, featuring homes built throughout the 20th century. “It’s older, and a lot of people like it because it has character,” says Realtor Melanie Schreiber with Amy Stockberger Real Estate, who has sold in Sioux Falls for over five years. Although it feels like a secluded enclave, Interstate 29 is just about 2 miles away, connecting the area to shopping centers, restaurants and amenities throughout the city.
Ranch-style housing on quiet suburban lots
Buyers will primarily find contemporary and mid-century ranch-style homes in Kingswood. Residential areas have sidewalks cutting through well-kept front lawns, and many streets end in cul-de-sacs. Most lots feature driveways and garages, keeping roads clear and open for walkers and joggers. Properties typically sell between $300,000 and $600,000, though outliers may fall outside of this range.
Parks and trails provide activities for all ages
Kingswood’s outdoor recreation centers around Kuehn Park, a public space with a variety of amenities. “A lot of people like being at the edge of this park and that it’s accessible to their children,” Schreiber says. “They’re also putting in a new waterpark there, which will make it really desirable.” This new waterpark is set to open in 2028. Current facilities include a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, baseball fields and a skate park. There’s also a seasonal outdoor pool that hosts events, like cardboard boat races and youth triathlons. The park’s community center, equipped with a gym and a computer lab, is a hub for after-school programs. Dunham Park, 3 miles away, offers additional athletic courts and access to the Sioux Falls Bike Trail. The park stretches along Skunk Creek, which flows into the Big Sioux River.
The Sioux Falls School District receives an A-minus
Children often begin their education at Oscar Howe Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche. Memorial Middle scores an A-minus, and Roosevelt High gets a B-plus. High school students can participate in a variety of activities, from football and basketball to digital arts and theater. The Sioux Falls School District offers school choice through magnet programs, open enrollment and transfers from outside the district, with student placement contingent on available space and, in some cases, lottery draws.
A short drive from everyday shopping and dining options
Part of Kingswood’s draw is its lack of commercial development. However, it’s still close to dining and shopping. “There’s Texas Roadhouse and stuff like that nearby, but Kingswood is more of a neighborhood, so you have to drive a little bit for restaurants,” Schreiber says. Morrie’s Steakhouse offers a fine-dining experience, just under 3 miles away. Within 2 miles, residents can reach The Empire Mall’s dozens of retailers and the shopping centers off Interstate 29. Big-box options within a 2-mile radius include Walmart, Aldi and Hy-Vee.
Proximity to the highway, airport and hospital
Kingswood is 2 miles from Interstate 29, which leads to downtown Sioux Falls, 7 miles away. Sioux Area Metro buses stop along 26th and 41st streets, bordering the neighborhood. The community is 9 miles from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport, which offers 13 direct flight destinations, including Atlanta, Orlando and Las Vegas. Residents can quickly access health care at Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital, 5 miles away.
