Made up of original colonial homes and farmland, recently built suburban subdivisions and dense, mature forests, Skippack Township combines rural roots with Skippack Village’s main street of small business. “It’s a historic area. A lot of the buildings have been freshened up, but keep the original character,” says Jim Cronin, owner of Top Shelf Cigar Company in Skippack Village. “There's the little village, but beyond that it gets more rural, and there’s a beautiful park and trail system.” About 30 miles from Philadelphia, Skippack Township is a hub of small-town community cradled between the Perkiomen and Skippack creeks.

“Our stores and restaurants are in their own little buildings. It feels like a village, not a shopping mall,” Cronin says. Along the main drag, Skippack Pike is lined by sidewalks, nostalgic lamp posts and historic homes-turned-storefronts in varied paint colors and architectural styles that charm residents and tourists. Cronin’s cigar company is one of many specialty businesses in the area, just down the street from several boutiques, the comics and games at New Wave Comics and the bright red barn which houses the Playcrafters Theater’s productions. For French and Italian cuisine served atop white tablecloths, folks enjoy a meal at Parc Bistro. Locals travel to nearby towns for most groceries and essentials, Collegeville’s Kimberton Whole Foods and Redner’s Warehouse Markets being the closest options at about 4 miles from Skippack Township.

Students in Skippack Township attend highly rated public schools, starting at Skippack Elementary which earns an A on Niche. Community parks, trails and Evansburg State Park
Skippack Township is home to several community parks, the largest being Palmer Park which is home to 2 miles of paved walking trails that wind through grassy fields fringed by trees and amenities like tennis and bocce courts, baseball fields and playgrounds. For a day out on the trails, folks can head to Evansburg State Park to explore the meadows, fields and dense forests lining Skippack Creek, a waterway responsible for shaping the park’s wooded ridges and valleys. Trailblazers traveling by foot, bike or horse can see remnants of historic buildings from the Mennonite and Quaker farmers who once lived in the area.
