A quiet, rural community 40 miles from Pittsburgh
Loyalhanna Township is a small community characterized by its golden fields of corn and winding country roads. Located 40 miles from Pittsburgh, this rural neighborhood offers a quiet getaway. “The people that are going to live in that area want more of a country atmosphere. They don’t want to be next to their neighbors. They want quiet,” says Lisa Petzel, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway. She’s been selling homes in the area for seven years. The neighborhood also offers several outdoor recreation opportunities, including fishing and boating along the Loyalhanna Creek, which runs through the center of town. Shopping options are sparse, but residents have access to fresh foods from local farms.
Loyalhanna Township has a low inventory market
Houses here are hard to come by. “A total of four properties sold in the last six months, so that’s definitely not suburban. It’s small-town USA,” Petzel says. When houses do go up for sale, they average about 36 days on the market. Colonial Revival and ranch-style homes are popular here and are often spread out. Newer homes with at least three bedrooms on large plots can sell for nearly $500,000, while older, smaller homes on modest lots can start around $100,000.

I have lived in this area all of my life so I can't really compare it with other places. This is a small town/community so there isn't always a lot to do outside of work and school. It used to be fairly safe but the crime and drugs have started moving in to this area more than in the past. This is mostly a middle class area and the job market isn't always the greatest. We have 4 seasons here and I would prefer to live in a place with a warmer climate most of the year. Possibly near the beach. I also would like to be closer to a city for more entertainment and social activities.
