An easygoing Fall River suburb just inland of the Taunton River
Right on the northern edge of town, Somerset Reservoir is a tree-shrouded suburb with a relaxed feel. The streets wind around the 165-acre lake that lends the neighborhood its name. “You can be close to decent schools, close to the highway and close to Fall River,” says Katie Elderkin, who has sold homes in the area as a Realtor with Keller Williams South Watuppa. “But it’s also separated from the city by the Taunton River, which means it’s quieter.” Melanie Bissonnette, a Realtor with Riverside Realty and Somerset resident of more than 60 years, agrees: “It’s a great, rural area to move to,” she says. “People really like the school system. And we have a wonderful riverfront, which, honestly, I don’t think we take enough advantage of. But there’s the Village Riverfront Park, which has a little beach.” Unlike the Taunton River, the neighborhood’s namesake reservoir isn’t used for outdoor recreation. However, it provides a dose of scenic nature in the backyard of many of the neighborhood’s homes.

Residential streets with single-family homes, some with extra room
Somerset Reservoir is a small neighborhood. Roughly 250 homes rest along the streets that encircle the reservoir and branch off Fairway Drive. “What people usually say they love about Somerset is that it’s all single-family homes,” Elderkin says. “So, there’s no condos or duplexes, and it really creates that family oriented, tight-knit neighborhood feel.” Well-tended lawns averaging about a half-acre frame homes built from the 1960s through the ‘80s, including ranch-style and Cape Cods. Millenium Mansions and New Traditional homes from the early 2000s are also scattered throughout the neighborhood. Rows of mature trees provide a buffer between homes on either side or in the backyard, though some houses back directly up to the reservoir. The reservoir isn’t used for swimming, so many homes in the area have backyard pools. Most single-family residences list between $475,000 and $750,000; however, some extra-spacious homes with over 3,000 square feet can be priced from $950,000 to $1.2 million. Somerset Reservoir currently holds a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.
