Somerville High School scores an A-minus, providing both traditional academic courses and vocational curriculum. The high school has preserved some of its original architecture from 1852, while renovation in 2021 created state-of-the-art science labs, media centers and a new layout that brings in abundant natural light. “It was planned to be a $250 million high school,” Santana says. “It’s one of the best and most modern buildings around.” Tufts University is a few blocks away, offering nearly 150 programs of study.Community events by the Somerville Arts Council

Interstate 93 is east of the community, providing residents with access to Boston and the Boston Logan International Airport, both of which are about 6 to 10 miles south. The locally approved café, Yego Coffee, is also in the neighborhood, while shops and restaurants along Holland Street are nearby. “Just about anywhere you live, you can walk to a square,” Santana says. “The closest one is Teele Square, where there are bookstores, coffee shops and restaurants.” Teele Square has many popular restaurants serving a variety of ethnic and American flavors, including Five Horses Tavern, Redbones Barbecue and Rosebud Indian-American Bar & Kitchen. The Burren is a staple Irish bar, and Comicazi is a local comic shop with collectibles. Target is about 3.5 miles away in the southern part of the town.
